International Student Admission

Requirements and Application

Thank you for your interest in Mt. San Jacinto College! Many exciting opportunities await you both on campus and in the community. Mt. San Jacinto is a community college founded in 1963 offering a comprehensive day and evening program of transfer and vocational education. The college is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the official national accrediting agency for this region.

The original campus is located in the San Jacinto Valley which is approximately 100 miles east of Los Angeles and approximately 45 miles from the desert resort community of Palm Springs. The two towns nearest the campus are Hemet and San Jacinto. The second campus, Menifee Valley Campus, is located 25 miles from the main campus midway between Sun City and Temecula just off the I-215 freeway.

Mild year-round temperatures and central Southern California location make this one of the fastest growing places in the United States. Activities such as golfing, fishing, camping, swimming, water skiing, hang gliding and sport parachuting are available within the inland area. Also available are apple and cherry harvest festivals, summer outdoor concerts, and fairs.

The weather in the semiarid region is considered very pleasant. During the winter months, November-March, temperatures range from 32° F (0° C) at night to 70° F (21° C) during the daytime so students wear fairly light clothing. During the summer months, May-October, the temperature ranges from warm to very hot.

Mt. San Jacinto College does not have any on-campus housing nor do we maintain a listing of housing within the community; however, apartments and rental houses are readily available and are reasonably priced.

The materials in this booklet are designed to answer some of your questions and to help you complete the enclosed application. For more detailed information about our college, check out the Mt. San Jacinto College website. You can find us at We look forward to receiving your application and welcoming you as a new student in the near future!

Hints to Help You Prepare Financial Documentation

  1. We cannot discuss financial documents with sponsors or students. Papers must be submitted by mail or delivered and our responses will be in writing by mail. Our decision will be made after looking at the documents with care and thought. To the best of our ability, we try to see the documents as if we were U.S. consuls, so that when you go to apply for your visa, you will not have difficulty because of insufficient or unclear financial documentation.
  1. The income of a company is not the income of the owner of the business and cannot be accepted as proof of income. You must provide an official statement of the salary paid to the owner/sponsor along with a bank letter indicating the amount available in the sponsor’s personal account. If the sponsor is the owner of the company, the sponsor’s bank or business accountant should write the salary letter.
  1. We cannot accept letters from banks or anyone else saying that a sponsor has enough money to support a student. When a sponsor wishes to keep his bank balance or income private, the bank can provide official documents saying that the savings or income is “more than” an amount that is clearly sufficient.
  1. Sponsors should not promise too much money. Some sponsors believe that the more money they promise, the more likely we are to say “yes.” A common cause for rejection of documents is that we do not believe the sponsor can afford to give as much as promised.
  1. Do not submit old documents. Both the U.S. government and Mt. San Jacinto College require recent documents (less than six months old).
  1. Do not send faxes or copies. Bank letter and Statement of Sponsorship must be originals.
  1. It is OK to have more than one sponsor providing support as long as the sum of all the affidavits and 3 consecutive bank statements shows that there is sufficient money available to support the student.
  1. Students can sponsor themselves, either partly or in full. No affidavits are needed for a student’s own money. Must provide 3 consecutive bank statements in the student’s name must be provided and statements from at least a year earlier to show us that the money was not borrowed and recently deposited.

An Affidavit of Sponsor form is included for your convenience. 3 consecutive bank statements or letter from a bank official is still required if you choose to use the Affidavit of Sponsor form.
