Summer Voluntary Project

London

Description: A Spiritual experience consisting of voluntary service with the homeless and children in a residential compound run by the Missionaries of Charity (Sisters of Mother Teresa) in London. The experience will consist mainly of mornings helping out with the soup kitchen and in the afternoons running asummer camp for children (aged 5-12 years). All work is carried out in close collaboration with the Missionaries of Charity.

The group will be staying at the Missionaries of Charity. Participants are required to contribute fully towards the preparation of the activities which will be needed as it is deemed to form an intrinsic part of the voluntary service.

A key elementof our experience is the integration of our service to the poor in our personal spiritual development. Participation in daily Mass (in English) and Adoration is a focal point, tired though we may be. There are also shared group duties (cleaning, preparation of group prayers), time for personal prayer, group reflection, and evening recreation together.

Fund-raising for the poor is held jointly with other groups taking part in the Chaplaincy summer voluntary work projects, unless a donor specifies otherwise. We may still be in a position to organise a fund-raising activity (not simply asking for money!) according to our abilities and creativity. Sponsorships for the participants may be sought with prior approval of the group leader.
