How Do I Write a Personal Letter?

Chapter 3- Autobiography

Personal Letter are letters you write to someone you know. For example, you may write to a friend, family member, classmate, or even to yourself.Personal letters can be written conversationally. They can be about whatever you wish. There are no rules for what you can and cannot talk about, although you should always be kind. Think about the person you are writing to might like to read.

You will add this letter later in your autobiography. For the draft, write your letter in your spiral. You will need to include at least three comma rules, in addition to comma rule #3. Label and highlight where you used the rule.

How do I write a personal letter?

  1. Begin your letter by writing your name and address in the top right-hand corner of the page.
  2. Next, write the date on which you are writing your letter. This goes on the left-hand side of the letter, just above where you will write your greeting.
  3. Under the date, write your greeting. It is acceptable in a friendly letter to be informal with your greeting. Depending on how well you know the person you are writing to, you could use “Dear”, “Hi”, or “Hello”.
  4. Now it is time to start writing the content of your letter. This is where you put everything you want to include in your letter.
  5. When you have finished writing your letter, end it by signing off (closing)
  6. Depending on how well you know the person, you could use “Your friend”, “See ya”, or “From”.
  7. Sign and write your name under the closing.
  8. 8. If you have forgotten to include something in your letter or you want to add an extra message, you can use a postscript (PS). This is written underneath your name at the bottom of the letter.

To the Class of 2022,

I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of you. You all, now seniors, have come so far. I can remember when you were 8th graders.

There are so many changes that have occurred over the years. I have witnessed many of you now driving cars, making new friends, and maturing into young adults[RCS1]. Although I despise the traffic on Almaville, I love seeing your faces when I pick up dinner at Taco Bell, Arby's, or Sonic[RCS2].

I know you will have bright futures, and I look forward to hearing from you[RCS3].

Sincerely,

Mrs. Favorite Teacher
