Course Syllabus:

Course Description: Algebra I is the first course in a sequence of required high school courses designed to ensure career and college readiness. The course represents a discrete study of algebra with correlated statistics applications.

Units in Algebra 1:

Unit 1: Relationships Between Quantities and Expressions (4-5 weeks)

Unit 2: Reasoning with Linear Equations and Inequalities (4-5 weeks)

Unit 3: Modeling and Analyzing Quadratic Functions (5-6 weeks)

Unit 4: Modeling and Analyzing Exponential Functions (5-6 weeks)

Unit 5: Comparing and Contrasting Functions (4-5 weeks)

Unit 6: Describing Data (4-5 weeks)

Textbook: There is no textbook for this class. Multiple resources will be used in class.Notes and examples will be given in class. Students should use a notebook to keep up with class notes, assignments, handouts and homework. Students will be given resources and links to resources in class to utilize in each unit.

Supplies needed: Students need to come to class prepared. Students should have a separate Algebra notebook. Students will also need paper, graph paper, and pencils. Calculators will be provided for use in class.

Calculator Policy: The class uses TI-84 plus graphing calculator. Students may check calculators out after school. Calculators must be returned by 8:00 a.m. the next day. If students do not turn in calculators on time, the student will lose the privilege to check out calculators.

Electronic policy: Phones and electronic devices will not be allowed in the classroom. If a student has a device out in class, it will be taken and turned into the office. Electronics will only be allowed for special instructional activities with teacher permission.

Floyd County Grading Policy: Tests/projects: 55%

Quizzes/Daily: 25%

Exam: 20%

Exam: The school exam exemption policy will be followed. The EOC is the exam for Algebra 1. Students may not exempt the EOC. A test will be given during exam week.

Attendance: The school attendance policy will be followed. Class instructions will continue when students are absent. It is very important that students maintain good attendance.

Classroom Expectations:

1. Be on time. You are expected to be in your seat with all supplies when the bell rings. Students not seated will be counted tardy to class.

2. Students are responsible for make up work. Students should request work from the teacher the day they return to school. Students are responsible for turning in make-up work to the teacher within three school days. If you are present the day before a test or quiz, you will take that will the class.

3. Be prepared with all materials. Materials include notebook, paper, graph paper, pencils and calculator.

4. Be considerate of others. All school rules will be followed.

5. Students will not be allowed to sleep in class.

6. No electronic devices in class.

Extra help:

Extra help is available before school each morning at 7:30 a.m.. Students may also schedule time after school with the teacher. Students should schedule extra help as soon as possible so that a teacher is available to help.
