Terrorism has been used by many groups around the world. Islamist extremists, including al-Qaeda, represent one example within the broader sphere of terrorism, which can be a domestic or international phenomenon. As al-Qaeda perpetrated the attacks of 9/11, they are the focus of this lesson, but it is important to remind students that all terrorists aren’t members of al-Qaeda nor are all terrorists of Muslim background. After 9/11, the Federal government took steps to increase National security to prevent another tragedy. Explain the cartoonist’s point of view on this issue in a paragraph. Do you agree with the cartoonist? Why or why not? Prior to answering the questions review the patriot act and post 9/11 airport security changes on line.


Use your answers to the above questions and the articles you reviewed to create your own political cartoon on the Patriot act or airport security to be displayed in our museum.
