Hey, Thomas, I Whispered, I Bet Percussion Will Be Last Again

Amy

One Morning, at 7:00 A.M, I asked my mother what the weather was going to be like for the day. “It will be cloudy with a chance of rain. Oh, and it will be stormy at night.” Mom answered.

“Oh, ok!” I sighed. As you can tell I do NOT like rainy days but, of course we live on the Southern Oregon Coast so... it most likely will rain. I quickly got dressed in my new knee-high leather boots, bright neon green jeggings, and my black raincoat. As soon as I started walking up the hill (where my dad wassupposed to be waiting for me.) I texted my mom saying that I would walk to my friend’s house to have them take me to school, if they could. I finally got to school with moments to spare before the tardy bell rang, rushed into band and took my seat before Ms. Bean took attendance.

“Ok, students! Please take out your music book and go to page 110, song number 1,002.” Ms. Bean explained. “Also,” she added, “We have a state competition coming up in three weeks, and I will pick one student from each section. right now.” All the students gasped.

“Hey, Thomas,” I whispered, “I bet percussion will be last again.”

“Yeah, I bet so.” Thomas replied.

“From the clarinets, I will choose a person and they get to represent me in the State Finals so…” she thought for a moment, “Hallie. It’s your choice if you w-” She was interrupted by the sound of thunder and lightning.

Soon, a high school student came in and said “Ms. Bean, sorry to interrupt but we need everyone to go back to the middle school ASAP.”

“Alright, kids you heard her! Pack your instrument and head out.” Ms. Bean announced. Then, one by one kids started to head back home. I soon was picked up by my father. Once we got into our house my dog, Basil jumped upon me because she was alarmed from the storm that was coming. My dad needed to go to the hardware store. At last then he left and I was home alone.

A few hours later we heard a big crash of lightning. “AAAAAAH!!!!” I screamed. I grabbed Basil and ran for covering.

We FINALLY found a hiding place and hid in there for what felt like a century. We heard yet another crash and then BOOM lighting struck our house, Basil and I got shocked by lightning and soon I heard a voice saying “Oh my goodness! HELP ANYONE HEEEELP!!!”
“Who’s there?” I asked.

“IT’S ME YOUR DOG!!”

“Wait-”

“NO TIME FOR WAITING GO GO GO!” So we got out and looked out the window. The storm was gone! After a short while we went to bed and I got up the next day just like always. I got to school on time and I realized that someone was in my seat, my dog!

Soon she was the star of the school and I wasn’t… As a result I decided to get to the bottom of it. I told Basil that this was NOT allowed and that she needed to leave my friends and my teachers alone. She finally agreed to leave and then school went on as usual. I also somehow lost my power to talk to animals. After that life went on as usual. Or did it…?
