The Authorised contract for Healthcare (including Cytotoxic), Animal By-Product wastes is managed centrally at the University of Edinburgh. If you intend to produce this kind of waste at the University, you must register with Estate Waste Management first.
Registration ensures that you receive allocated barcode labels which enable the waste to be tracked from the laboratory to the point of pick up by the authorised contractor. Additionally, as the disposal of these waste streams are rechargeable back to the producing school/unit, this registration provides us with the contact details of the responsible person within your unit/school and internal recharging details. Once registered, you will receive your new labels and a set of guidance notes on how to use them.

4. Procedures
Published University procedures for the segregation, labelling, packaging and disposal of these waste streams must be followed at all times and information (including regards scheduled training courses) can be found on our website ( by following the “Laboratory Waste” link.
The Responsible Person named above must confirm that they are aware of current policies and guidelines for the disposal of Healthcare and Animal By-Product waste. This confirmation must be provided in order to be registered as a Waste Producer and provision of this confirmation serves to confirm also that this person agrees that they and others using the supplied labels will follow stated policies and guidelines.
I am aware of current University of Edinburgh and local School policies and guidelines and of my obligation to adhere to these when producing and disposing of waste at the University of Edinburgh. Signed: ______
