Everyone has settled in and it feels like we were never away for summer break. We currently have 228 students enrolled, a bit of a drop from last year. We are operating with 19.2 teaching staff members. To finish the hiring process, Melissa Donovan was hired to teach at the high school level part-time. Our five, soon to be six, educational assistants play a vital role in supporting our students, as well. Several new students have enrolled including our Syrian newcomers. We are off to a grand start!
Harvey High School is a peanut-freebuilding. Please keep this in mind when purchasing snack and lunch supplies. We are also a scent-free building. This is extremely difficult to manage. Keep this in mind when purchasing hygiene products or perfumes for your childrenAnaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that needs to be treated immediately and can be life-threatening.; we have students who are prone to severe allergic reactions should they come into contact with either peanuts or scents.
Lindasy Fitzgerald and Lisa Steven works diligently evry day to provide a wide array of delicious meals for our school community. The cafeteria was sorely missed last year. Student and staff, and I suspect parents, appreciate this valuable service.
Monthly Guidance Newsletters will be sent to grade 12 parents/guardians via email to keep you informed and updated on everything Guidance.Mrs. Gillespie has a section on the HHS website entitled Guidance where all current information is housed. It is an excellent resource for both parents and students(
Our annual magazine campaign is slated to begin on the twenty-second of September. As always we appreciate the support of our community. If you are interested you can order from any student at HHS or through the QSP website (qsp.ca). Our Group Online ID is 3706850. Please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions.The chees fundraising initiative will be scheduled for late fall.
School Immunization Clinics will be held to vaccine against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough) to all students in grade 7 and the HPV vaccine to the grade 7 girls only. We will also be offering the meningitis vaccine to the grade 9 students and the chickenpox vaccine to the grade 9.
We have eighty-six students playing- thirty-eight percent of our school population playing soccer and running cross country this fall. Thanks to the volunteer coaches and drivers who make this participation rate possible. School volunteers must submit a criminal record check and become familiar with several provincial and District policies. At 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, there will be a volunteer workshop held at Harvey High. Anyone interested in attending should contact the school prior to that date. A criminal record check can be arranged through the RCMP.
