President’s Report

I take my hat off to you guys congratulations McCredie Uniting Soccer Club. It’s such a special achievement to all the coaches, managers, parents and players you are to be commended for your efforts you give your time and a lot of energy to offer young people good, clean safe activities.

I certainly want to apologise for not spectating at as many games as I may have liked however I received constant reports and each weeks scores were reported weekly in the Church newsletter and during theannouncements in church. You folk are all very important.

As the President I would especially thank Greg and Carolynne for their vision and 100% effort.

Hope to see you all back next year and bring your friends!

Grace and peace

Rev. David Wrightson

PS Players please make sure you remember to thank your manager and coach for their efforts thisyear.

Secretary’s Report

In Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club’s second season we were able to field three junior teams in the Under 12, 10 and 9 age groups, two mini teams in the under 7 and 6 age groups and two senior teams in the Raahauge Cup competition.

I would like to acknowledge all the players and parents who have supported the McCredie teams and your club this year. By name I would particularly like to commend the following “club people” who have supported every club activity, taken on additional roles of responsibility, have completed courses, attended meetings and taxied players. Errol Henderson, Brendan Deppi, Ian Warwick, Megan Warwick, Peter Chapman-Stone, Robert and Helen French, Peter and Dorothy Warwick, Katherine French, Glen Mackenzie, Steve Barrett and Gaven Biber, your club certainly thanks you for your hard work during the season.

This year we almost won our first trophy – three times! Congratulations to the Under 9s who finished as runners up in the competition, in the Knockout and at the President’s Cup. Winning is not the most important thing however, it is pleasing to note that our three junior teams all finished in the top four and our mini teams won the majority of their matches. Our champion under 6s from 1999 found the under 7s a little more difficult but they certainly look to have a rosy future on the full size field next year. As for our under 6s they were semifinalists at the six a side.

In last year’s report I wrote how pleasing it was to see how supportive our parents are. The same could certainly be said this year as almost all our club’s parents regularly support their son’s teams and clearly have a good time doing it. I am sure the parents are as happy making new friends as their children are.

It is again hoped that next year McCredie will be able to grow and enter more teams in more age groups. To do this we will require the boys to bring their friends along next year. We will also require more coaches, managers and other helpers to make this possible. Coaching and referees courses will again be offered in March and April next year so please consider how you can assist the club. Volunteers are sought now to assist with the running of your club.

Thankyou to all the coaches, managers and associate referees for your assistance throughout the year. No club can function without your support.

Don’t forget that the registration days are the first two Saturdays in February at Granville Park between 8am and 11am or on the first two Sundays in February at McCredie Uniting Church between 12pm and 2pm. You can also register any time up until then by seeing me but remember no registration will be accepted without a $20.00 deposit. Fully paid registrationsbefore October 2000 will pay 2000 rates (you can still beat the GST!).Please register early as I would hate anybody to miss out.

Under 6 Team Report

9 Wins8 LossesGoals for: 55Goals against: 43

For the U/6’s, this year has been a great learning experience for the boys, the coach and the manager.

After our first trial match against Lidcombe it looked like it was going to be a verylong season. We didn’t know which way to run let alone how to score a goal!

However, the boys learned quickly and in only our second game of the season we came up with our first win.

It was great to see the boys improve their skills during the season and each of them made important contributions at different times.

The Players:

David Semialjac – Our best attacking player and most prolific striker, scoring 30 goals for the season. He is developing great ball skills and always gives 110%.

Joseph Taouk – Our number one defender who also made many good attacking raids and scored some great goals. His clearing kicks often saved us – turning defence into attack.

Joshua Joya - Solid in both defence and attack. Josh always covered a lot of ground each game, continually taking the ball up and scrambling in defence when needed.

Mark Cindric – A great attacking player who scored some good individual goals during the season. Mark is developing good attacking skills and will be hard to contain next year.

Joshua Achermann - Had a slow start but improved tremendously during the season. Often had the knack of being in the right place at the right time to produce some good clearing kicks and a couple of opportunistic goals.

John Koster – After the first couple of games John took on the role of full time goalkeeper. He proved to be a great asset to the team making many good saves and often kept us in the game.

William Taouk - A good utility player who was always in the thick of things. Stood in for John as goalkeeper when needed and did a good job.

Nicholas Saliba – Always there in attack and defence and constantly looking for an opportunity to score. Nicholas put in a great effort all season but unfortunately missed the last few games due to an overseas trip.

Abdul Abdul-Hamid – A late addition to the team but a great team player. Abdul was always there in support when needed both in attack and defence. He enjoyed his soccer and always had a smile on his face whether we were winning or losing.

It has been a really enjoyable experience being associated with the U/6 team this year and we sincerely hope that all the boys will return next year.

In particular, we would like to thank and congratulate all the parents for their enthusiastic support and encouragement of the boys throughout the season.

Under 7 Team Report

A very encouraging season this year by the team. Enormous improvement in all aspects of the game. At the start of the season, we were relying completely on one or two players, but as weeks progressed the training began to pay off. Both individual skill and team play became obviously more efficient and this allowed us a couple of good wins. This continuous improvement built up to an excellent performance at the six-a-side knockout day. We came very close but it just wasn’t our day with a controversial loss to OLQP (C). however, we got the better of them a couple of weeks later with a very satisfying 3–0 win. This game summarised our whole season. We struggled at first but through hard work, perseverance and good sportsmanship we came out on top. Hopefully we will do even better next year. Have a good break and we’ll see you next season.

Adem Stevens: A great season all round for Adem. Although he had a big share of the goals this year, Adem was really impressive in defence with a couple of times running the full field to stop the other team’s offence.

Amarvir Singh: An excellent season up front for Amarvir. Not only was he our lead scorer but he showed great leadership qualities in team play as the season progressed. Amarvir was voted this season’s player of the year.

Dale Atkin: A good season for Dale. He was definitely the keenest player on the team. Dale was willing to have a try at everything from mid-field to goalkeeper. Like the other boys he showed improvement through the season.

Emilio Chalhoub: A good season for Emilio. He was definitely the quickest learner at training and made a very pleasing effort to apply the skills he learned in games when they were needed. It’s a shame we missed him in the last few games.

Joe Haddad:A very good season for Joe. He had a fair share of the goals but it was defence where he was a star. As the season progressed Joe played a number of awesome games as fullback. Defensive player of the year.

Michael Chami: A good season for Michael. A pleasing effort in many aspects of the game. He was a keen player who showed improvement as the season progressed and learnt to put his body on the line.

Rodney Keep: A good season for Rodney. He was definitely the most improved player of the year. He showed great courage as the season progressed and this built up to a great last game performance where he scored two goals.

Sameer Nasir: A good season for Sameer. He had a pleasing year as our regular goalkeeper with some really good performances. He learnt to put his body on the line and set the team up for scoring opportunities down the field.

Sarkis Moujalli: A good season for Sarkis. He was definitely the most physical player in the team, with me not knowing if he was going to tackle or squash his opponents. However, he showed lots of improvements in the last couple of weeks.

Thanks to Shoaib for taking on the responsibility of coaching the boys and to the parents who supported their sons and the team each week.

Under 9 Team Report

The under nine team had fourteen registered players. Last year this team finished in seventh position and whilst the boys all improved and had a good time we could never have predicted what happened this year. During the year we played 24 matches (including knockouts) and recorded 18 wins, 2 draws and just 4 losses. The team finished runners up in the Saturday Competition and made it to the Knockout Final. In the Saturday following the competition the boys played the President’s Cup where we defeated the First Division Premiers to qualify for the final. These were magnificent achievements for a group of boys, 6 of whom were under eight and 7 of whom had never played soccer before.

In the Knockout final we were beaten in extra time by The Falcons after having led 2-0. We were therefore primed for revenge when we knew that we would be facing them again in the first of our President Cup matches. The boys were ready and so was the huge number of supporters (where did they all come from?). We scored 2 great goals, had another disallowed and missed a penalty. And our goalkeeper never touched the ball! In short we totally dominated our opposition who didn’t know what had hit them. In the final we played Blacktown. All year we were the only team who had managed to draw with them. They beat everybody in the comp and at the six a side. In round two of the comp we drew 1-1 with them so the stage was set. Unfortunately a sleepy start by us saw the opposition score a very early soft goal. From then on though we matched them with the game moving from one end to the other. We never scored but it was a terrific match to finish the season. I can see many more of these Blacktown/ McCredie/Falcons battles happening for the next few years.

The players:

Ahmed Abdul Hamid – Last year Ahmed scored one goal. This year he scored 30. Ahmed’s skills are developing very quickly and with his speed and his powerful shot he will continue to score goals. After the Knockout final the referee particularly commended Ahmed for both his skills and his sportsmanship.

Caner Temel – Caner played sweeper for us this year and is proof that you don’t have to score goals to be a great player. Ahmed may have scored 30 but Caner certainly saved at least that many whilst also organising his outside backs. Caner has very reliable ball control but also an important understanding of the game, of when to tackle, of when to run and of where to kick.

Cem Tekirdag – Cem really shone in the big games. He scored plenty and set up plenty and his developing partnership with Ahmed was vital to our success this year. However it is Cem’s ability to gather the ball on halfway and effortlessly glide his way into the opposition’s penalty box time and time again that is truly remarkable.

Chafic Khoury Geagea – Chafic is a reliable member of the team. Camped at right or centre back Chafic has well and truly learnt what the role of a defender is. His clearing kicks are improving and in the last few games Chafic made some good passes down the wing to our halves after having attacked the ball.

Haissam Abdul Hamid– Haissam was our latest arrival this year. From the outset Haissam was keen to do his best and always gave 100 percent effort. Haissam’s skills improved during the year and his strong throw-ins were wonderful.

John Ghabach– John saved his best for the last half a dozen games, which were our most important. John played his best soccer in the centre midfield chasing everything, developing good ball control and passing skills.

John Paul Ghabach– John Paul is our quickest player. Opposition players were often surprised to see him running past them and getting to the ball first. John Paul’s goal against St Matthews was a beauty, beating two down the left side and kicking it in from a narrow angle with his left foot. It brought the house down.

Joseph Membreno – Joseph was playing great soccer before being injured in a car accident in June and not playing again before moving away in August.

Mat Biber – Mat made a decision early in the year that he was going to play goalkeeper. Mat practised and practised and soon he was diving around and becoming a very safe keeper indeed. Mat had his finest game in the first round of the knockout when he made three great diving saves to break the hearts of the opposition.

Patrick Ajnas – Pat was again Mr Reliable this year. Whether it is at training or at the game Pat always understands what is happening around him. Because of his awareness Pat got the tough job of marking the key players in the sides that threatened us and did an outstanding job. Pat also rarely misskicks and always passes to one of his teammates.

Ram Al Muhena– Ram missed a number of games which was a shame because his skills were improving all the time but not being given a chance. Ram played a terrific second half in the President’s Cup Final with some big clearances, good position, persistent tackling and sensible passing.

Sam Barrett– Can you believe ‘Blocker’ Barrett is only an under 8!! Sam was usually the tallest player on the field and used his size to great affect at left fullback. Sam was also our only left footer. By the end of the season Sam was very difficult to pass and cut off opposition attacks down his side of the field.

Steven Ghadieh– It is hard to believe Steven hadn’t played before. His kicking power from the back was enormous, right or left footed, and his tenaciousness and speed saw many opposition players lose the ball. Steven had a great season.
