IN THE DIRECTOR’S SHOES

Dvolver Movie Maker:

Students will play the role of Director; together with their partner, they will actually make a digital movie. This will be a contest … we will all vote on the best movie!

There are seven steps:

  1. Two choices need to be made: background and sky. There are 15 kinds of background and 12 kinds of sky. Each option gives information about its location, temperature, population, common activities, flora and fauna, and special features.

2. Next, the plot for the movie is selected. Students have four options:

Rendez-vous

Pickup

Chase

Soliloquy

  1. After the plot has been selected, students will choose their characters. The number of characters will be related to the plot chosen.
  1. Now students must think of the words that will be spoken by the characters in their scenes. If the Rendez-Vous, Pickup, or Chase plot has been selected, three turns per character will need to be completed. In the Soliloquy plot, there is only one turn for the only character in the scene. In any case, each turn may contain a maximum of 100 letters. Be sure to use clear, grammatical English!
  1. Next, students will choose a soundtrack. They will decide whether or not they want the scene to have background music; if so, they have 15 music tones available. After deciding on music, students must decide if they want to end their movie with only one scene or to add another one. Only one more scene can be added due to time constraints.
  1. Then we move on to final editing. Here, students will create a title and type in their names as the directors of the movie. They also will choose one title design from four options: Classic, Horror, Radioactive, and 1970s.
  1. The final step is for the moviemakers to preview their movie and then e-mail it their teacher, . They will also be able to link their movie on Facebook, blogs, or other places.
