Girls Swimming and Diving

1. Practice starts on Wednesday, August 9th. These practices are notoptional. Please plan any work schedules, vacations, or appointments for times when we are not practicing!!

2. Physicals must be turned in before you may practice.

New this year

  1. if you were in a spring sport you are already logged in to
  2. if you did not then you must set up an account
  3. Scan your child’s physical front and back separately and have ready to upload into the program
  4. Scan your current insurance card as well and have your doctors contacts
  5. Have 2 emergency contacts/info ready to add
  6. All directions are on the RHS school website – under athletics

No more paperwork. All athletes must register this way. If your child had a free physical done in May at school – it will be loaded for you.

3. Before you can swim in your first meet you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have been with the team for ten days from your first practice
  • Maintain academic eligibility

~Failing 2 or more classes at any time during a grading period may result in the following:

  1. Warning about grades
  2. Missed practice to study/meet with teacher/after school tutoring
  3. Missed meets
  4. Dismissal from team
  • Have no unexcused or excessive absences- 2 or more days out sick or hurt

5. The following rules apply to attendance:

  • Missing five consecutive days of practice for any reason (excused or unexcused) will result in a minimum of a 1 meet penalty
  • Unexcused absences from a meet result in a 1 meet penalty
  • All doctor, dentist, etc. appointments are considered semi-excused. Practice is subject to being made up on a yard for yard basis. PLEASE make all of your appointments for outside of the fall swim season!
  • Any unexcused absence from practice results in missing a meet or possibly the number of events you may swim. This would include being late if you are serving a teacher/dean detention.
  • Athletes participating in other activities must realize that in the fall, swimming takes priority over all other extra-curricular activities. Practices and meets missed due to other activities will be considered unexcused.
  • College visits need to be planned during the summer and off season. Please see Coach Thompson if you will be planning to go on recruiting trips for swimming/diving opportunities.

6. All members of the team will be issued a bag and a lock. The swimmer is responsible

for these items. If either of these items are lost, damaged, or stolen, the swimmer

will be responsible for replacing the item(s). Team members are required to purchase

a suit and cap. The girls will purchase their own personalizedteam sweats. They will

continue to use them each year. If you lost or need anew top or bottom you may

purchase them again.

  • Mrs. Peters will helpwith sweats as she is in charge of apparel for the team. She can be reached at
  • Team caps are available from the coaching staff as needed for $5.00 each for latex and $12.00 for silicone.
  • Any suit(s) and cap can be worn for practice. Please do not wear your meet suit in practice. Goggles are needed as well. Please come to practice with the correct equipment- suit, cap, goggles. We will not be issuing any of those- not swimming in practice because you don’t have the correct equipment will be considered unexcused.

7. Every attempt will be made for all team members to participate in every meet- either

in an individual event, a relay, an exhibition or a JV event. Due to meet entry

limitations at all meets, not every swimmer/diver will be able to participate in every

meet. Entries will be at the discretion of the coaching staff.

8. Transportation will be provided or arranged to all meets. Team members are required

to travel to and from the meets with the team unless arrangements have been made

with the coaches prior to the meet. For end-of-season meets (Conference and

Sectionals) athletes may be asked to provide their own transportation depending on

the meet location and schedule.

9. In case of any absence, illness, or tardiness, every effort to contact the coaching staff

should be made.

10. Any specific questions or concerns should be directed to Coach Thompson. Every

effort will be made to work out any problems or concerns.

11. Time Trials will be run during the first week of practice. Each swimmer will swim

all of the time trial events. During the evaluation week swimmers will be evaluated

on several criteria including:

12. The first week of practice will be considered an “evaluation” for the team. During

this week the schedule will be as follows:

Divers will attend all practices.

Wed. Aug. 98-11:00 a.m. @ RHS - Time trials included

Thu.Aug. 10 1:00-4:00 p.m. @ RHS -Time trials included

Fri. Aug. 118-11:00 a.m.@ RHS - Time trials included

Sat. Aug. 128-10:30 a.m. @ RHS - Time trials included

Mandatory parent/athlete mtg at 10:45 a.m.

Mon. Aug. 151:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ RHS

Tue. Aug. 161:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ RHS

***ALL athletes should also bring a water bottle, Gatorade, etc. each day to practice!!

A new schedule will be passed out on Wed. Aug. 9th if there have been any changes made as we get closer to Aug 9th.

On Friday, August 11th the final team roster will be posted on the

swimming pool doors by 5 p.m. if cuts are necessary. These practices

are not optional. Please plan any work schedules, vacations, or

appointments for times when we are not practicing.

Drylands and morning practices may be added. The coaching staff will let the athletes know what time these will be and who will need to attend.
