Getting started with FLO Live

If you are invited to use FLO Live for a tutorial, lecture, meeting or collaborationsession you will need to follow a few simple steps to ensure your computer is ready torun FLO Live.

Hardware

If you wish to use FLO Live you will need to have access to a computer with thefollowing hardware as a minimum:

  • 600 MHz Intel Pentium III processor or equivalent (minimum 1 GHzprocessor recommended when screen sharing)
  • 128 MB of RAM (256 MB or more recommended)
  • 100 MB of available disk space
  • Minimum resolution 800 x 600 (1024 x 768 or higher recommended)

Using Audio

You will also need to ensure that your computer has a sound card and that you haveaccess to a multimedia headset (containing earplugs and microphone) to be able totake part.

Multimedia headsets can be found in many electrical stores, eg. Dick Smith, Tandy,Harvey Norman etc and may also be available in discount department stores such asBig W, Target etc. In our experience there is little to no difference in quality betweena cheaper headset and a more expensive one. You can buy USB headsets or two pin(one for the earphones and one for the microphone) headsets. If buying USB, pleasefirst ensure that your computer has a spare USB port.

For the headset to work you will need a sound card in your computer. If yourcomputer makes noises and has sockets for both a microphone and speakers, then youhave a sound card. You will need to plug the headset into the speaker and microphonesockets (or USB port). Instructions on which plug fits where should be enclosed withyour headset. Some headsets may take a few tries to get the right plug into the rightsocket. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a few tries to get it right.

Internet/Web Browser

You will also need your computer to be connected to the internet. It doesn’t matterwhat speed you are connected at. If you are using broadband you should have noproblems. If you are using dialup you may experience some delays (gaps) in audio, but should still be able to participate.

You will also need web browser software. The list below indicates which browserswe are able to support with use of FLO Live:
