“Geospatial Technologies and its Application”

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru is organizing a National level training/workshop on “Geospatial Technologies and its Application” under the funding support from Natural Resources Data Management (NRDMS)Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Mr. H. HemanthKumar, is the Co-ordinator for the Training Programme and the proposed training will be conducted at Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Campus, Bengaluru.

Eligibility: Graduates and post graduates in Engineering / Science with good Computer knowledge is preferable. The candidates above 50 years will not be considered for the training programme.

Duration: The training programme scheduled to be held from 21-09-2015 to 09-10-2015 and is of three weeks duration.

Target group: University / College teachers, Research scholars, individuals working in Earth Sciences (Geoinformatics, Geography, Geology and Envi. Science) or engineering from all parts of India are eligible for the workshop / training programme. Maximum number of participants is 25.

How to apply: Candidates willing to participate in the training should submit an application on plain paper. Application must be submitted through the Heads of their respective Departments/Colleges. Brief bio-data and certificates relating to basic computers are to be enclosed with the application. Details of the Training: During 21 days of training programme, the trainees will be trained with theoretical sessions on concept of Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS)followed by practical sessions on GIS and RS Software.

The training duration is of three weeks. In first week, basics of GIS technologies will be covered. GIS specialists from various national/state organisation will teach the theory part and hands on software training will be provided Industry experts. Field work is also carried out by trainees for better understanding of ground truth details and mapping the data using GIS software. In second week, application areas will be touched inviting the GIS & Remote Sensing experts from ISRO, SOI and other disciplines.Third week would be used entirely to carry out project work using the GIS& RS software and GPS by each trainee. Participants are expected to submit a project report at the end of third week. Efforts will be made to visit premier national mapping agencies during the training program. Lecture notes and GIS related information would be given to each participant to utilize them in their respective Departments or Colleges.

Selection procedure: Applicants will be selected based on their interest and future application of Geoinformatics in their respective disciplines. Young faculty and researchers will be given more preference. Candidates applying from remote Universities and colleges will be given higher priorities.

Accommodation: Boarding and lodging will be provided to the selected candidates during the workshop. However, local candidates will not be given the same.

Main aim: The purpose of the technical programme is to train the teachers, practitionersand researchers in utilisation of Geospatial Technologies like GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing technologies in their respective domain.

Note: Nominal TA will be provided to few deserving candidates.
