REGULAR Meeting…………March 17, 2011

RECOGNITION ITEMS

·  Recognized the following members of the Brownie Troop from East Portsmouth Elementary School, for leading the “Pledge of Allegiance”: Kayla Adams; Terryann Blizzard; Leilani Duckett; Mika Duckett; Alexis Gallion; Courtney McIntosh; and Breanna Scalf.

·  Recognized Hank Fletcher, a 5th grade EPES student, for winning the spelling bee at EPES and placing 8th in the Scioto County Spelling Bee.

·  Recognized the following students from EPES who were first place winners in the building science fair: Andrew Hale (3rd Grade); Alexa Billiter (4th Grade and Best of Show for Grades 3-4); Kylea Billiter (5th Grade); Marco Moore (6th Grade); Justin James (7th Grade); and Micah Stiverson (8th Grade and Best of Show for Grades 5-8).

·  Recognized Andrew Turner, a 6th grade student at East Portsmouth Elementary School, for being selected the sixth grade winner in Scioto County of the “Child of Appalachia Writing Contest” sponsored by the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, with a winning essay titled, “My Invention Would Be a Car”.

·  Recognized board member Ray W. Thompson who will complete at the end of 2011 ten years of service as a school board member for both the Portsmouth City School District and the Scioto County Career Technical Center (January 1, 2002 thru December 31, 2011).

PERSONNEL CONSIDERATIONS

Certificated

·  Employed the following substitute teachers, effective March18, 2011: Amanda Literal; Megan Toppins; and Jamie Waugh.

·  Approved the following supplemental contracts, effective the 2010-2011 school year: Sarah Barney (Assistant softball coach at PHS); Jon Born (Assistant softball coach at PHS); and Fred Myers (Assistant baseball coach at PHS).

·  Approved two-year contracts (2011-2013) with the following administrators: Amy Hughes (Assistant Principal –PHS/PJHS); Lindsey Kegley (Grants/Curriculum Coordinator); Dana Pollock (Principal Grades K-3 at PES); Dianna Reedy (Assistant Treasurer/Payroll); and Randall (Jake) Schneider (HVAC Coordinator/Supervisor).

Classified

·  Employed the following individual as a substitute custodian, effective February 28, 2011: Jason Nelson.

·  Approved the appointment/reappointment of the following non-licensed individual, effective the 2010-2011 school year: David Shoupe (Assistant baseball coach at PHS).

SUPERINTENDENT RECOMMENDATIONS

None

TREASURER RECOMMENDATIONS

·  Approved a Resolution to accept amounts and rates determined by the Budget Commission for the previously adopted Tax Budget of the school district.

CONSENT ACTION ITEMS

·  Approved three (3) personal service contracts.

·  Approved the following volunteers: David Hopkins (PHS Varsity Boys Baseball Volunteer Coach); Jim Ramey (PHS Boys Tennis Volunteer Coach); and Vicki Oliver (PES Classroom/Office Volunteer).

·  Approved monthly donations totaling $7,796.71.

·  Approved an out-of-state trip for the PHS Varsity Baseball team to Lewis County, Kentucky.

·  Approved the following routine financial reports and recommendations: Interim Revenues; February 2011 Management/Financial Data; Summary of February 2011 Bills and Payment to Vendors of Invoices Exceeding $3,000.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS

Following their return from Executive Session, the Board took the following actions:

·  Approved the renewal of the administrative contract of district treasurer, Kyle Smith, for a period of three years (2011-2014).

·  Per evaluation of Superintendent by the Board of Education, approved amendment of his existing contract which reflects no increase in salary or extension of contract.
