What Kindergarten program is available in the Summit public schools?

The Summit Public School district offers a half day Kindergarten program to achild who resides in Summit and is five years of age by October 1st of the school year. There is an AM & PM session.

In the fall, the Board of Education has the discretionto approve a full day Kindergarten program with limited seats for children who reside in Summit and are five years of age by October 1st of the school year. The full day Kindergarten program is selected by lottery and is a tuition based program.

What time is the Kindergarten program?

AM Kindergarten is 8:30 to 11:22

PM Kindergarten is 12:22 to 3:15

Full Day Kindergarten is 8:30 to 3:15

Where are the Kindergarten programs located?

The Kindergarten classes are located in the Primary Centers at Jefferson and Wilson schools. Depending on your address, your child will attend Kindergarten in the Primary Center for which your home is districted. Jefferson Primary Center home schools are Brayton, Jefferson and part of Lincoln Hubbard; Wilson Primary Center home schools are Franklin, Washington and part of Lincoln Hubbard. If you are unsure of the Primary Center for your residence, please call either of the Primary Centers for information.

How does the Full Day Kindergarten lottery work?

If the Full Day Kindergarten Lottery program is approved, lottery applications will be availableonline in Decemberon the district website as well as at the Primary Centers. Within a few days after the application deadline, there will be a lottery drawing where the selected applications are numbered and seats offered to the corresponding number of seats available. Information about the lottery will be available on the district’s website.

What happens if my child is not selected for the Full Day Kindergarten lottery?

We maintain a wait list in numerical order as selected in the lottery. Once a seat becomes available, we will contact the next student on the waiting list.

What if I missed the lottery? Can my child be considered for Full Day Kindergarten?

Yes, your child will be placed on the waiting list following those who entered the lottery drawing.

How much does the full day Kindergarten cost?

Tuition for the 2018-19 school year is $5,500.00. with reduced rates available for families who qualify under the Federal Reduced/Free Lunch Program. A non-refundable, one month, 10% deposit is due at registration which is applied to September tuition. Tuition is paid in three installments in September, December and March.

When and where does Kindergarten registration take place?

Full Day Kindergarten registration takes place in January and half day Kindergarten registration takes place in February at the Primary Center your child will attend. Please check the district website for the dates for Kindergarten registration.

Can I tour the Primary Center to see the Kindergarten class?

Tours are conducted at the Primary Centers in November and December. Please see the district website for tour dates and times. Registration is required.

Is there before and after care available at the Primary Centers?

The school district does not offer before and after care for Kindergarten. However, local providers may offer before and after care and it is the parent’s responsibility to contact these providers.

Is there bussing to the Primary Centers?

There is no bussing.
