Frequently Asked Questions (Faq)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

1. How do I know what version of NAVFIT98A is on my workstation?

ANS: To find out the version perform the following steps:

1. Open NAVFIT98A

2. Select Help

3. Select About NAVFIT98A

Version 29 is 2.002.0029 and Version 30 is 2.002.0030

2. Will my database or reports created under Version 29 work with Version 30?

ANS: Yes, use the Import Data or Open database functions to execute.

3. What should I do if the version 30 has not been installed but LT fitreps are due?

ANS: You can use the old version of NAVFIT98A but just remember that the application will not validate the revised forced distribution rules. That means you must refer to Table 1-3 of BUPERSINST 1610.10C or manually calculate the numbers.

4. How do I manually calculate the forced distribution numbers?

ANS: For Summary Groups of more than 30 members, calculate the maximums using the following example: Assume 42 E5s in a summary group, 60 percent maximum Early Promote and Must Promote combined:

Early Promote + Must Promote Maximum = 42 x 0.6 = 25.2,

which = 26 (rounded up).

Early Promote Maximum = 42 x 0.2 = 8.4 = 9 (rounded up).

Must Promote Maximum = 26 – 9 = 17.

Note: The Must Promote maximum is the difference between the rounded numbers. Must Promote recommendations may be increased by one for each Early Promote quota not used. All summary groups of two can receive one Early Promote and one Must Promote.

5. Can I download NAVFIT98A to my NMCI computer?

ANS: No, a user on the NMCI computer cannot install NAVFIT98A unless it is a developer workstation. NAVFIT98A is considered a NMCI CORE APPLICATION (CA). A software application is designated as an NMCI CA if it is part of the Core Build for any particular seat platform on any operating system (OS) (all applications required to deliver any of the base Client Data seats are considered CAs).

6. What changes have been made in version 30?

ANS: Primary changes with version 30 include the following:

A. Technology refreshment to improve compatibility with various workstation configurations (i.e. Windows 7 and Vista operating systems).

B. Incorporates the Lieutenant forced distribution change.

C. Adds additional lines to the comments on performance block (block 41-fitrep/chiefeval or block 43-eval).

D. Incorporates the E7-E9 evaluation (CHIEFEVAL) form.

7. Do you think I will loss data during the application upgrade?

ANS: During testing, Fleet users did not lose any information (databases, reports) that was created by Version 29. However, we recommend that you copy all databases from the following folder as a safety precaution. C:\Program Files\NavFit98A\Data.

8. How will NMCI perform this application update?

ANS: NMCI will upgrade workstations during scheduled maintenance periods. Users will receive a NMCI User Alert email providing the dates of the upgrade and any actions required by the user. Individuals must submit a Move Change Add (Mac) Request to have the new version push to their Secret Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) workstations.
