ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (1991-1998)
Office of Jon J. Denton, Executive Associate Dean

In this position I provided administrative assistance to COE faculty in the preparation and submission of research proposals. I was promoted to Administrative Assistant on September 1, 1995 after serving as Staff Assistant from June 10, 1991. My primary responsibilities were scheduling meetings; planning support for special events; maintaining Dr. Denton’s calendar; faculty support in locating information, creating budgets, obtaining signatures, etc. for grant applications. In this position I developed a database to track the funding, submission, and awards of faculty grants. I assisted with the composition of correspondence and co-authored one article with Dr. Denton. I co-authored and created the annual External Funding Reports of the College of Education, from 1991-1997. I established the first research web site for the College. I assisted with the development of the Access database for faculty data.

Chemistry Department 9/88 to 6/91

Under the supervision of Ronald G. Carter, I began as a Senior Secretary and was promoted to the position of Laboratory Procurement Officer II. As the purchasing agent, my primary focus was to keep the faculty, staff and students supplied with their research and instruction needs. I created the purchasing specifications for scientific equipment and organized the annual purchase of supplies for the freshmen and organic chemistry classes that required a thorough knowledge of chemical and scientific formulas.

Procurement Services 10/85-9/88

I served as Clerk III under the supervision of Gwen Singer. My communication and organizational skills were developed in this job. My duties included coordination of purchases requested by TAMU faculty and staff with vendors. This coordination included preparing bids and proposals.

Physical Plant 1980-1982

I served in the Planning office as their work order data base clerk and assisted with estimating small remodeling construction jobs.

Other Positions 1982-1985 and 1977-1980

At Dean's Temporary and Kelly Services I was fortunate to work at a variety of places such as Sun Oil and Westminister Presbyterian Church where there was a wide variety of people, computers, equipment, and procedures in each office. At Spartan Drilling in Bryan, I managed their office during a time of extensive reorganization and restructuring; and at Harte Hanks Newspapers I served for two years as composing artist.
