Commitment / 3 days a week from January for 6 months – finishing in July 2010
Department name and brief description / This role is in the Campaigns Department. The Oxfam Northwest Campaigns Team focuses on influencing regional political structures, supporting regional activism and building strategic alliances. It does this by raising the profile and understanding of Oxfam’s exciting campaigns (Climate change Costs Lives & Health and Education For All), through regional media, community projects, special events and work with youth and schools.
What the intern will be doing (maximum 5 points) / The Outreach Support Executive will do a wide variety of tasks as they manage the Outreach network in the North of England.
This will include for example;
-Creating a regional Outreach strategy
-Recruiting, training and supporting volunteer outreach co-ordinators.
-Securing Oxfam’s campaigning presence at some of the larger regional events.
-Helping to co-ordinate the regional campaigning for Oxjam (Oxfam’s music festival)
-Creatively thinking of ways to campaign to new audiences
-Managing the regional administration, monitoring, evaluation and learning of this project.
-Participation in national outreach events and initiative where appropriate
-Using a range of on and offline tools to share good practice and create a sense of community/network throughout the region/nation.
What skills or experience the intern needs to have (maximum 5) /
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage a complex workload (E)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (E)
  • Effectively manages own time and works to tight deadlines (E)
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, engage and mobilise people and/or team (E)
  • Initiative to come up with creative solutions to problems (E)
  • Passion to get involved in Oxfam’s campaigns (E)
  • A knowledge of and commitment to Oxfam’s aims (E)
  • Experience of organising and running events/ project management (D)
