DOWNTOWN HOLLAND RECEIVES $3,000 GRANT TO SUPPORT

THE 2014 STREET PERFORMER SERIES

The Downtown Holland Principal Shopping District is pleased to announce that they are the recipients of a $3,000 grant from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs through the Holland Area Arts Council to support the 2014 Street Performer Series. The Series is a weekly program featuring performing artists and groups from all backgrounds who perform free for the public throughout Downtown Holland. Since it first began in 2005, the Street Performer Series has grown to become one of Downtown Holland’s most popular events, attracting thousands of residents and visitors each week.

The 2014 Street Performer Series will take place Thursday evenings this summer from June 12 through August 28. From 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm every Thursday, the sidewalks of Downtown Holland will be filled with musicians, balloon twisters, jugglers, magicians, acrobats, dancers, puppeteers, and a multitude of other talented performing artists. Young and old alike are welcome to delight in the sights and sounds of the Street Performer Series all summer long.

Applications are now being accepted from performing artists and groups for the 2014 Street Performer Series. If selected for the Series, performers will be given scheduled performance dates and locations. Performers will receive a stipend from the PSD in exchange for their performance and will also have the opportunity to busk for tips. All performers will be selected through an audition process, which includes completion of the application and a review of a performance via CD, DVD, or website. All performers selected for the Series are required to obtain a 2014 Street Performer Permit and agree to abide by the City of Holland’s Street Performer Ordinance. Performers interested in applying for the Series must apply online at http://bit.ly/1dNObHa by Monday, May 4.

The Regional Regranting Program is a grant giving partnership financed by the State of Michigan through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and run by regional regranting agencies. The Holland Area Arts Council is one of 19 re-granters who administer funds at the local level to support arts and cultural projects that recognize and address a community need.
