ASSESSMENT/REVIEW TIMELINES FOR BBT TRAINEES

Summary of Requirements for satisfactory progression in training:

Year 1 / Equality & Diversity training (valid for 3 years)
Safeguarding Children Level 3 (valid for 1 year)
Advanced Life Support training (valid for 4 years)
Completed GMC National Training Survey
Leadership – one CBD to address leadership competencies
Year 2 / As above

BBT trainees will undertake four six month placements in each of General Practice, Medicine, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. Placements may occur in any order. For each placement there are specific requirements with regard to assessments which will need to be met in order to satisfactorily complete BBT training and exit into the specialty of choice. Below is a summary which should be read in conjunction with information in the BBT curriculum, trainee handbook and the BBT portfolio.

Assessments in GP PLACEMENT
3 CBD / 1 MSF (using the GP MSF tool)
3 COT / 1 PSQ
Learning Log
-  At least one reflection of an anonymised case of a patient who has required care between two of the four BBT specialties
-  Reflection of audit/project work
-  Learning Log reflecting on 10%
Engagement in audit/project work in the placement
Review – End of Placement review (a) with ES if first placement or b) CS if subsequent placement, plus discussion with ES)
Assessments in MEDICINE PLACEMENT
6 WPBA (3 must be ACAT) / 1 MSF (using the CMT MSF tool)
2 DOPS – competence in practical procedures (demonstration mandatory) / 1 AA (audit assessment)
Learning Log
-  At least one reflection of an anonymised case of a patient who has required care between two of the four BBT specialties
Reflection of audit/project work
Learning Log reflecting on 10%
-  Engagement in audit/project work in the placement
Review – End of Placement review (a) with ES if first placement or b) CS if subsequent placement, plus discussion with ES)
If exiting to Medicine – Consider completing 4 DOPS, WPBAs should be with consultants where possible. Ensure evidence of all 4 emergency presentations on the epf, and a good proportion of “the top presentations”. It is recommended to complete MRCP Part 1 by end of BBT year 2
Assessments in PAEDIATRIC PLACEMENT
2 CBD / 1 MSF (epaed MSF tool)
3 Mini Cex / 4 DOPS – competence in practical procedures (demonstration mandatory)

-  Reflection of audit/project work
-  Learning Log reflecting on 10%
Review – End of Placement review (a) with ES if first placement or b) CS if subsequent placement, plus discussion with ES)

If exiting to Paediatrics – recommended to start working towards completing membership.
Assessments in PSYCHIATRY PLACEMENT

If exiting to Psychiatry – Consider completing the Structured Assessment of Psychotherapy Expertise (SAPE), Assessment of Teaching (AoT), Direct Observation of non-Clinical Skills (DONCS) and DOPS (as in Foundation). Recommended to complete 1 written Exam – either MRCPsych Paper A or Paper B

Trainees are expected to engage with their e-portfolio and PDP throughout their training. Trainees should link their learning to the curriculum for broad based competencies and specialty competencies.

28 August 2016 / Induction appraisal with ES
29 January 2016 / End of placement review – undertaken by ES
All assessments for placement to be completed
Equality & Diversity training must be completed (Year 1 only)
26 February / Induction appraisal with CS for second post.
29 April 2016 / Interim Review for ARCP - undertaken by ES
17 June 2016 / End of placement review - undertaken by CS
Review of BBT programme with ES
All assessments for the second 6 month placement must be completed.
Safeguarding Children Level 3.
Complete GMC National Training Survey
Week beginning
18 July 2016 / The Annual Review of Competence Progression takes place during this week. All trainees must keep this week free as trainees will be expected to attend the panel, if any part of their e-portfolio is incomplete.
