Greater Manchester Youth Network is looking to recruit a Finance Officer. This role is to provide a full financial support service to the Chief Executive, external accountants, project teams and external agencies/partners.

The position is based at GMYN’s office in Ardwick, Manchester.

GMYN currently uses SAGE accounting and payroll software.

Key areas of responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Contribute to the setting of budgets on an annual basis with the Chief Executive Officer and the GMYN Board of Trustees.
  • Produce income and expenditure reports as required and produce monthly budget reports.
  • Produce and present finance reports to the Chef Executive and the GMYN Board of Trustees.
  • Provide financial information as requiredand complete any returns for individual projects to support funding requirements.
  • Develop, enforce and monitor financial policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with accountants and other relevant external financial organisations.

Financial Administration

  • To oversee the day to day operation of the organisations finances and ensure the smooth operation of the support systems and services.
  • Enter all financial transactions ensuring sales, suppliers invoices and petty cash are entered correctly onto SAGE.
  • Carry out bank and petty cash reconciliations
  • Ensure robust credit control procedures are in place including regular review and monitoring of GMYN debtors consulting with the Chief Executive and project managers where appropriate.
  • Carry out payroll requirements using SAGE payroll.
  • Carry out month and year end procedures as required.
  • Process GMYN’s BACs payments in line with required dates.
  • Ensure that all costs are correctlyallocated to individual projects, where appropriate, using unique identification codes
  • Support completion of year-end audit and ensure all relevant paperwork is made available and follow up queries from GMYN’s Auditors
  • Maintain security around float/petty cash systems, ensuring all cash floats issued are signed for upon collection and co-ordinating the timely return of reconciliations and/or outstanding monies.
  • Work closely with GMYN’s management team to ensure that deadlines for input and receipt of information are achieved.
  • Manage finance-training requirements for staff including finance inductions for new staff
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities that contribute to the organisations overall aims and objectives.

Working hours/location

The post is based at GMYN’s head office in Ardwick Green North, Manchester.

The standard hours of work are 21per week to be worked as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role. This will involve working some evenings, as well as during the day.

Person Specification:

Essential criteria

  • A detailed knowledge of sound financial practice, procedures and systems for a charity.
  • Significant experience of working in a finance environment, preferably in the voluntary/charity sector.
  • Previous experience of computerised payroll administration.
  • Experience of month end and year end procedures and ability to take accounts to trial balance stage.
  • Liaising with accountants and supporting with the preparation of annual accounts.
  • High degree of experience using a range of IT applications, including Sage Accounts, Sage Payroll, MS Office, and databases
  • Working with and managing multiple budgets.
  • Knowledge of Issues and legislation affecting youth groups and organisations.
  • Good team player with the ability to motivate and support other colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage own workload.

Desirable criteria

  • Appropriate Finance qualification – for example ACCA Part Qualified Accountant.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the data protection act.
  • Experience of recording and monitoring work for various projects and various funders.
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Experience of supporting youth groups and voluntary organisations in a paid or voluntary role.
