FHCCI APPLICATION FOR BOARD MEMBERSHIP

The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) is a private, non-profit organization which was incorporated in August 2011. Our mission is to ensure equal housing opportunities by eliminating housing discrimination through advocacy, enforcement, education and outreach.

The FHCCI has two primary goals in its work to fight housing discrimination:

  1. Educate the public on fair housing laws so people recognize and report problems and understand their responsibilities, and
  2. Engage in enforcement activities to eliminate unlawful discriminatory practices.

The FHCCI fights housing discrimination not only because it is unlawful, but also because it is a divisive force that perpetuates poverty, segregation, ignorance, fear, and hatred. The FHCCI offers four main programs to combat housing discrimination and promote equal housing opportunity: Advocacy, Education, Inclusive Communities, and Public Policy. The FHCCI is currently seeking applicants for its Board of Directors. What are the expectations of a Board Member of the FHCCI?

  • The Board meets every other month, on the fourth Tuesday of each month, from 5:30-7:30 PM. As a Board Member, you are expected to attend a minimum of 70% of board meetings in a calendar year.
  • Each Board Member is expected to make a yearly financial donation during each calendar year. There is no minimum amount to this donation; it simply must be a monetary amount that is meaningful to you.
  • Each Board Member is expected to attend at least one board/staff volunteer community event each calendar year.
  • Each Board Member is requested to attend the FHCCI’s yearly fair housing conference and participate as needed by staff.
  • The Board of Director position at the FHCCI is a volunteer position with no monetary compensation provided.

Through its Advocacy Program, the FHCCI Board of Directors votes on whether to proceed, when warranted, to litigation or other needed enforcement action to address uncovered acts of unlawful housing discrimination. Please note that if you work in the housing industry, your eligibility for Board consideration will be determined by the degree of potential conflict of interest you may experience as a Board Member. If the conflict is minimal, we will expect you to recuse yourself from decisions which may be a conflict for you. If the conflict is significant, this position may not be a good fit for you or the FHCCI Board.
