The frequently asked questions below are derived from questions often asked on the access-ccme-cue alias. The objective of this document is to provide a quick and accurate answer to any question about licensing Cisco Communications Manager Express, Survivable Remote Site Telephony and Cisco Unity Express when deployed on an ISR or ISR G2.

Question: My customer recently purchased an ISR G2 router with CME (or SRST). The purchased ISR routers have permanent UC and IP licenses, but I am concerned that the CME licensing is defined as an evaluation, when it was paid for it. Why is CME (or SRST) an evaluation license?

Answer: CME and SRST seats are installed on the router as evaluation but can be easily reconfigured as permanent. Since CME and SRST are honor based, there isn’t a need to install a license or a PAK on the ISR G2. The customer should accept the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) and then configure the system for the purchased SKU. A configuration change, via CLI, is needed to convert the evaluation license to a permanent license. The need to make this configuration change is expected to be removed in an upcoming release of CME/SRST. The license type will then change to “Right to Use” AFTER the Evaluation period expires.

Question: My customer has CME (or SRST) seats on an ISR (2800, 3800) and wants to migrate them to an ISR G2. How is this done?

Answer: CME and SRST seatsmay not be migrated. The number of desired seats should be purchased on the appropriate ISR G2 bundle or by adding seats through feature license purchases.

Question: Is there any circumstance in which a CME or SRST license may be transferred to another ISR platform?

Answer: Yes, licenses may be transferred to a like platform for the same number of seats in the event of an RMA. For example, if a 2951 which has 50 CME or SRST seats install must be returned (RMA), then the 50 CME or SRST seats may be installed on the replacement 2951.

Question: My customer cannot find or did not receive the PAK for the CME or SRST seats purchased, how does he get a replacement Product Activation Key (PAK)?

Answer: Typically, a paper license (aka PAK) will be shipped when a CME or SRST ISR G2 bundle is shipped unless the customer has ordered a license with the prefix “L” which indicates electronic delivery. However, because the licenses on CME and SRST are honor based, a PAK isn’t necessary for installing the seats.

------Question: How can I demo or evaluate CME or SRST for my customer?

Answer: All of the ISR G2s have a 60 days evaluation licenses enabled by default which can be used for demo purposes. Please note that the IOS UC Technology Package must also be installed. The IOS UC Technology Package license is also available for a 60 day evaluation.

Question: What happens after the 60 day evaluation period ends?

Answer: If the customer purchases the appropriate number of CME or SRST seats, then they have the “right to use” the number of purchased seats. The license automatically converts into a “right to use” license after the 60 day period and will be active for ten years after conversion.

Question: How do you configure permanent licenses for CME or SRST?

Answer: Accept the End User License Agreement below and the licenses will change to “right to use license” after 60 days of eval.

------Question: My customer currently has anISR G2 which was purchased with 25 seats of CME or SRST. They are planning on adding 20 new employees, how do I add additional seats to the ISR G2 chassis?

Answer: Additional CME or SRST seats may be ordered via Feature Licenses in increments of 5, 25 or 100 seats on the ISR G2. Please see table 8 and table 6 in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express and SRST Ordering Guides, respectively, for details.

Question: My customer purchased an ISR G2 bundle with 25 CME seats included. Does the customer need to purchase phone licenses too?

Answer: Yes, phone licenses need to be purchased separately. Phone license are not included as part of CME ISR bundles and must be purchased separately. You can find the appropriate Product IDs in the CME Ordering Guide, table 9.

Question: My customer wants to migrate from CME to UCM. Are there any migration promotions available to them?

Question: My customer has CUE module installed in an ISR G1 (2800, 3800) and wants to move it to an ISR G2. Is this permitted?

Answer: Yes, CUE modules may be installed in the G2, and should maintain the license parameters initially purchased.

Question: My customer purchased CUE voice mailboxes, ports and/or IVR sessions and wants to transfer these to a new module. Is this permitted?
