Call for ExpressionofInterest

The Northern Territory Minister for Health, the Hon Natasha Fyles MP, is calling for Expressions of Interest for appointment to the newly-created Top End Health Advisory Committee and Central Australia Health Advisory Committee. These Health Advisory Committees are being established to promote and facilitate community consultation and engagement to shape the delivery of public health services in the Northern Territory.

Role

The role of the Health Advisory Committees is to provide a means for effective communication between the community and the Health Service.

Committees will advocate for, and present advice on issues of importance affecting the health, well-being and cultural values of their community, as well as providing feedback on the effectiveness of health service delivery and the experience of health service consumers, their families and carers.

Health Advisory Committees will provide local advice and input relating to the planning and operation of health service activities and supporting systems.

Eligibility

Applications are being sought from members of the community to provide for a sufficient mix of background, skills and expertise to satisfy the Committee’s purpose.

Applicants who possess one or more of the following experiences or attributes will be considered:

  • Health care consumer
  • Carer
  • Identification as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Clinician or administrator in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation
  • Clinician (current or former)
  • Remote or very remote place of residence
  • Other relevant stakeholder for the health system

Only applicants residing within the region served by the Committee (that is, Top End region or Central Australia region) will be considered.

The Minister will appoint a Chairperson from successful applicants to ensure the roles and responsibilities as set out in the Terms of Reference are fulfilled.

Responsibilities

Health Advisory Committees will meet no less than four times in any twelve month period. Committee members must be able to attend a minimum of three meetings in the twelve month period specified. In addition, special meetings may also be called as initiated by the Committee Chairperson.

Appointments will generally be for three years, with the potential for reappointment for a single three year term. However to ensure a balance of continuity and renewal, initial appointments may be for one, two or three years.

Remuneration

Committee members will be remunerated as outlined in the NT Government Boards Handbook: A guide for members and administrators of Northern Territory boards and committees, according to classification Class C2 – Advisory and Review Bodies (Expert High Impact).

Application Instructions

Individuals wishing to be considered for appointment to one of the two Health Advisory Committees must complete the response template found at NT Department of Health website

Applicants are asked to provide, as an attachment to this template, an outline of their education and employment history.

Expressions of Interest will benefit from the inclusion of one or more written letters of support.

Successful applicants who are appointed to a Health Advisory Committee will be required to have a current Working with Children clearance and Criminal History check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from appointment to the Committee unless relevant.

No extensions will be granted.

All respondents will be notified that their Expression of Interest has been received. The Selection Panel will review all Expressions of Interest and shortlisted applicants will be recommended to the Minister for Health.

The Minister will announce appointments to the two Health Advisory Committees in late August 2017. Successful applicants must be available to commence duties in September 2017.
