Re: MARGO Award Nomination Procedures

Each year, students have the opportunity to nominate outstanding field instructors/preceptors to be considered for the annual MARGO Award. This information outlines the nomination procedures for the MARGO Awards recognizing Excellence in Field Instruction.

The MARGO AWARDS are named in honor of Professor Emeritus, Margaret (Margo) Schutz Gordon, who served with distinction as a faculty member in the KU School of Social Welfare and was Director of Field Education from 1970 to 1983.

Students currently enrolled in Field Practicum are encouraged to nominate their Field Instructor/Preceptor for a MARGO Award recognizing their dedication to teaching and student learning. Minimum requirements for nomination include a statement from the student stating his/her reasons for the nomination. Please provide descriptive examples of how the field instructor effectively promoted learning in the agency. Students are also encouraged to obtain supportive statements from persons with personal knowledge of the Field Instructor/Preceptor’s performance, such as agency staff members and Field Liaisons.

All nominees for the MARGO Award will receive a certificate of recognition from the School. A copy of the nomination letter and any letters of support will also be forwarded to the Field Instructor along with their certificate of nomination. After thorough review of all nominations, one to two Field Instructors will be selected to receive the award.

The MARGO AWARD recipient(s) will be formally recognized and presented with a plaque honoring their contributions.

Please take the time to consider nominating your Field Instructor for this award.

Nomination deadline is the LAST Monday in February.
