SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

This General Application should be used for the ETSU study abroad scholarships listed below. READ the instructions below before completing application. INCOMPLETE or LATE applications will not be considered. Submission of an application does not guarantee any award.

DEADLINES: Fall Semester of Study = April 30; Spring Semester of Study = Oct. 31; Summer = March 1

Early deadline for students applying to the IE and ETSU Summer $1000 Scholarships = January 31

REQUIREMENTS:

ALL: Students musthave completed at least one semester of study at ETSU prior to applying for any of the scholarships listed below. International students are encouraged to apply, but awards may NOT be used for study abroad courses in their home country. Awards are non-transferable.

  1. ETSU International Education Scholarship:
  2. Full grant awards typically equal $750 per week abroad, but not to exceed $3500 total or 50% of program costs, whichever is lowest
  3. Semester long program applicants with documented high financial need may be eligible to receive up to a $5000 grant or 50% of program costs, whichever is lowest
  4. Partial grant awards may be offered depending on availability of funds
  5. Used for short-term (summer) or semester/year programs
  6. Minimum ETSU GPA: Undergraduates = 2.75, Graduates = 3.30
  7. May be combined with ETSU Summer $1000 and Bach Provost Study Abroad Scholarship
  8. Previous awardees are eligible to reapply but their applications will be considered only after first time applications are reviewed. Maximum number of awards per student: 2 Intl Education Scholarship or a combination of 1 International Education Scholarship and 1 Bach or Summer $1000 scholarship
  1. Bach Provost Study Abroad Scholarship:
  • Grant awards typically are $1000; exceptions may be made for documented high financial need
  • Used for short-term (summer) or semester/year programs
  • Undergraduates only; minimum GPA = 2.75
  • Preference given to students pursuing (a) a major/minor that includes study abroad as a requirement or a designated alternative for a formal curricular requirement; or (b) enhancing foreign language competency related to a formal academic degree program
  • May be combined with #1 ETSU International Education Scholarship
  • Previous awardees are not eligible to reapply
  • There are no exceptions of the minimum eligibility requirements
  1. ETSU Summer $1000 Scholarship (may be combined with others)
  2. Grant award is a maximum of $1000
  3. Used for summer study abroad courses led by ETSU faculty only
  4. Minimum ETSU GPA: Undergraduates = 3.25, Graduates = 3.50
  5. Applicants must have documentation of high financial need
  6. Previous awardees are not eligible to apply

There are no exceptions to the minimum eligibility requirements.

APPLICATION ITEMS NEEDED for ETSU International Education Scholarship, ETSU Summer Plus $1000 Scholarship and/or the Bach Provost Study Abroad Scholarship:

  1. TYPED application form
  2. Budget & Financial Need: Use Budget Form provided on Intl. Programs website and document financial need by taking your completed Budget Form to ETSU Office of Financial Aid for verification. This step is mandatory regardless of your FAFSA filing status
  3. Unofficial ETSU transcript –
  4. A 300–800 word essay on how your proposed course of study will enhance your academic and personal growth. You must discuss (1) why you selected this particular program/course; and (2) how the course(s) relate to your major area(s) of study or career objectives. If this program is not directly related to your area of study, explain in detail how it will enhance your education. If this is not your first time studying abroad, address how your proposed study and travel relates to your past experience
  5. Provide brief information about study abroad program (flyer, brochure, print-out of website, etc.). If you are going on an ETSU faculty-led or a TNCIS program, there is no need to provide this information
