STEWARDSHIP DAYS

ELKHORN / LAS DELICIAS

DEMONSTRATION PROJECT

Supported by Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold, Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department, Altar Valley Conservation Alliance and Partners

JANUARY 9-23, 2012

Join the Altar Valley Conservation Alliance Restoration Coordinator David Seibert and watershed restoration experts Bill Zeedyk and Steve Carson for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn by doing. We’re seeking people to install rock structures that will harvest upland rain water flows to reestablish vegetation and arrest erosion. In the process, you’ll learn how the low-tech system of induced meandering stabilizes and restores eroding gully systems. You’ll help implement low-tech techniques that drain road systems and harvest water onto the adjoining land in order to restore watershed surface hydrological function and promote vegetation for wild life and livestock.

Construction of the structures involves physical work while moving and placing rocks, but if you’re not sure that’s for you, rest assured that there are still ways you can be involved! Photography is also welcome.

Please bring: Food, water bottles/canteens, camping supplies (wood fires strongly discouraged), gloves, hat, and sturdy work shoes.

To learn more contact David Seibert or Mary Miller

To RSVP, please fill out the form attached to this notice and return to Sarah King at . If you’d rather, you can also print it and mail it to:

PLEASE RSVP BY DECEMBER 16, 2011.
