Elementary Administrator/Professional Development Coordinator

Colon Community Schools lies in the Northeast corner of St. Joseph County and extends into Branch and Kalamazoo counties. Our district consists of three buildings and approximately 610 students. In 2014, two of our three buildings were identified as Reward Schools by the State of Michigan.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Leadership
  • Set and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are aligned with district goals
  • Ensure that programs meets or exceeds student outcome goals as measured by the district and state
  • Supervise classroom instruction and recommend changes and improvements
  • Coordinate and oversee all school and district improvement and accountability reporting
  • Oversee the creation of building master schedules
  • Develop and evaluate a team of teachers with other district administrative staff
  • Maintain current with research and best practices for curriculum, instruction, and delivery
  • Implement data-driven instructional practices and discussion about student performance
  • Oversee the 504 and IEP process for the district
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Professional Development Coordinator
  • Responsible for planning, designing, and delivering district professional learning opportunities
  • Responsible for structuring and coordinating district professional learning communities
  • Organizational Leadership
  • Develop building goals and objectives consistent with those of the district
  • Administer board policies, master contracts, and Michigan Tenure Act
  • Supervise building spending and internal accounts
  • Seek grant and fundraising opportunities
  • Create and foster a culture of excellence developing a healthy school climate aligned with district vision, mission, and goals
  • Build collaboration with among staff, students, families, and community
  • Oversee programs, services, and activities to ensure that objectives and met
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements
  • Ensure safety and security of all students, staff, visitors, and property
  • Personnel and Community Relations
  • Coordinate building news releases, newsletters, and community communication
  • Monitor progress on all measures of school and staff performance
  • Professionally communicate the vision of the district and schools
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position and act as a role model for other employees

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with demonstrated five years of successful experience. Prefer three to five years of building leadership experience
  • Master’s in Educational Leadership, Administration, or other related field
  • Michigan Administrator Certification or the ability to obtain one prior to employment
  • Experience with Instructional Leadership, budgeting, and team building
  • Demonstration of leadership in building, or district improvement
  • Demonstration of technology skills
  • Strong communication skills with a variety of audiences in written and oral forms
  • Ability to problem solve and prioritize work
  • Experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support or Response to Intervention
  • Experience with Professional Learning Communities

Compensation:

Salary and benefits shall be based on the district’s approved compensation plan.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy, District Guidelines, and State Legislation. Evaluations will be performed annually by the Superintendent.
