Project Due Date:

You have been hired by Elements of the Universe, a comic book publisher, to create a new

superhero/villain whose appearance, characteristics and powers are based on an assigned element in the periodic table.

Student Tasks: (these are the items that you must turn in when complete)

Complete the “My Element Research Worksheet”

Illustrate the Superhero/Villain

Write a story about the Superhero/Villain

Check your work by completing the grading rubric (student copy)

Illustration of Superhero/Villain:

must be drawn on clean, white printer paper (provided by teacher)

must include at least 3 of the physical properties of the element in the illustration

must include at least 2 of the chemical properties of the element in the illustration

must list the physical and chemical properties you are including on the back of the illustration

must use color (for example: if Sulfur is your chosen element, then the costume, hair or skin must be yellow since sulfur has a characteristic yellow color)

Story for Superhero/Villain:

must include 8 properties (physical and chemical combined) of your element

must underline each property within the story

relevant story line (use the element research worksheet to help you)

must be one full page (double spaced lines and Times New Roman 12pt. font, if typed)

Extra Credit: 10pts. (Optional)

Create a sidekick for your Element Superhero or Villain. The sidekick should be another element that your original element frequently forms compounds with. Example: If your element superhero is Captain Chlorine, a good sidekick would be Sodium Man because Sodium (Na) frequently combines with Chlorine (Cl).To receive the extra credit, you must include both a Drawing and a One Paragraph description of your sidekick.
