THERE ARE TWO VACANCIES FOR PARENT GOVERNORS. YOU MAY VOTE FOR TWO CANDIDATES (BUT NOT MORE THAN ONE VOTE FOR EACH CANDIDATE).

CANDIDATES:

Craig Mumbray

I am a 50 year old father of three boys who all attend Saint George’s School. I work as a UK Senior Manager for Fortune Brands business and would like to become a Parent Governor.

With my belief that clear direction and leadership are key to an effective school governing body and thus a successful school; if I am fortunate enough to become elected as Parent Governor, I feel that I can cast an independent eye over the workings of the school and bring a unique perspective to the current Governors. I have a proven history of managing teams and assisting in managing change and believe that this experience would be of value to the School Body and the school.

Just like every other parent at our superb Saint George’s, I want the very best for my children. I want them to be happy, confident and aspire to become the very best they can be. As parents, we need to support the school, but when necessary we should also put the school under a tough spotlight. I am not afraid to ask tough questions and I am used to speaking out and up for what is most important. Frankly there is nothing more important than our children.

Sam Nash

I have 6 children currently spread across four schools and I think this gives me a great opportunity to understand how different schools work and try to bring the best to Saint George’s.

I was previously part of my children’s junior school PTA and both myself and my husband are central members of our local church in the parish of Fawkham & Hartley. I have been heavily involved in running the church’s children’s summer holiday club for many years.

I am childminder and have also worked as a TA at Milestone School in New Ash Green.

Lucy Norman

I currently work locally, overseeing and contributing to the provision of universal and targeted services for families with children aged 0-8. I am a Designated Safeguarding Officer and am also responsible for the implementation of a number of core policies including health and safety, equality and diversity, safeguarding and community engagement. I have been part of a number of Ofsted inspections and internal audits. I would like to become a Parent Governor as I feel I have a lot of relevant experience to offer and am keen to support my children’s school in their next phase of expansion.

Richard Spackman

I would bring an honest and hardworking approach to my role as a Parent Governor. I have always taken an aspirational approach to my role, and at Saint George’s I would work closely with the school to ensure that they strive on being the best they can be. I would value working alongside the Head Teacher, the teachers and the pupils, to ensure that their education is visionary.

Having a daughter in year 8, I have always put my children’s future at the uppermost importance, therefore I would be delighted to be given the opportunity in making a difference in the education, of not just my daughter, but the school as a whole. In addition, having served as a Teacher Governor, I feel that my professional experience, coupled with my close interaction with children, would be of great benefit. I would hope to be an asset to the school, dedicating my time to be a proactive and effective Parent Governor.

Richard Taylor

Presently working as an archaeologist, author and magazine editor, I previously worked as a secondary school teacher and also had the privilege of working at Saint George’s for a short period in 2013. I wish to take on the role of Parent Governor at Saint George’s as I know the school has the potential to be outstanding, which will benefit all our children, their education and development. As a current serving Governor at a local primary school, I understand what this involves, and the broader role of Governors in steering progress. In my experience, a Parent Governor needs to support the school’s senior leadership team, but also challenge when the need arises. This strategic leadership is not always as easy or straightforward as it sounds and often requires the strength of character to ask those difficult questions, while all the same time, helping decide the priorities for school improvement and always considering what is best for the children.
