Electronics Technology – SkillsUSA District 6 Competition Updates

Date & Time: Friday, February 20th, 7:30am orientation, 8:00am contest start time

Location: Eastfield College, L-107, 3737 Motley Drive,Mesquite, Texas 75150

Clothing Requirement:

For men: White polo shirt with black dress slacks, black socks and black leather shoes.

For women: White polo shirt, with black dress skirt (knee-length) or slacks, black socks or black or skin-tone seamless, hose and black leather dress shoes.

All: Safety glasses with side shields or goggles. (Prescription glasses can be used only if they are equipped with side shields. If not, they must be covered with goggles.)

Required Equipment/Materials

The contestant will bring the following:

a.  Small pliers

b.  Wire cutter

c.  Wire stripper

d.  Small assorted screwdriver set (Phillips and slotted)

e.  25-watt soldering iron and associated soldering supplies/desolder pump/braid/solder/etc. (Note: No soldering guns allowed)

f.  Other hand tools as desired, subject to the approval of the technical committee chair

g.  Digital Multimeter capable of measuring ohms, volts and current (Extra 9V battery)

h.  Breadboard and wire jumper kit

i.  Calculators (can have scientific notation, but cannot be programmable)

j.  All competitors must create a one-page résumé and submit a hard copy to the technical committee chair at orientation. Failure to do so will result in a 50-point penalty.

Contest Guidelines:

a.  Contestants will arrive promptly at 7:30am for tool kit & dress code check. Resume will be surrendered at arrival to be graded during competition. Orientation and equipment familiarization to follow, with an event start time of 8:00am.

b.  Contestant will complete a knowledge test comprising of four competency quizzes from the ETCAI system over the following areas:

  1. DC Circuits
  2. AC Circuits
  3. Digital
  4. Solid State

c.  Contestant will demonstrate the ability to identify components and solder/desolder accordingly.

d.  Contestant will build a circuit from a schematic diagram, using given parts. Apply voltages and measure requested values using appropriate test equipment. Troubleshoot any problems as necessary.
