COURSE DESCRIPTION:
EH 101 is a college prep class. It is a technical writing class, not a creative writing class—though all writing should be creative. You will analyze your own writing and that of your peers with objectivity and purpose. You will write in several modes, demonstrating that you have control over your thoughts and vocabulary—all of this while you are developing your own personal style and comfort with the language. You must make a C in this class to receive the college credit at BishopState.
In addition, you will read some of the most important pieces of British Literature; after reading you will take tests or write essays on the work…in true college fashion. So strap yourself in; I hope you enjoy the ride!
FIRST TASK: Buy the text. Here is the info you need to order the book. You have twoweeks to get your copy or borrow it from someone who took the class before. I recommend that you try to buy this Ninth Edition; it will save you tons of $$$$$. Use the Internet! I will furnish you mimeographed copies for the first two assignments ONLY.

Grading System: POINTS, per directive from MCPSS: 60% of grade must come from tests; 40% of grade comes from homework, class work, miscellaneous assignments.
Make-up DAYS: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdaysduring Break. If you have missed a test for an excused absence, be sure that you stay to take the make-up! Unexcused absences result in zeroes on tests or daily work. Suspensions= NO make-up.
On the center table in my class are three Class Logs. One is for 1 specific period. When you are absent, it is your job to pick up that folder, write down assignments, and take out handouts with your name on them. If you need further explanation, please see a peer or me. Please turn in any work missed in about two days.
Absences: In college, attendance is not nearly as important as it is in high school. This class will move very quickly. Each day you are out may feel like three when you return. REMEMBER that you have only 4 parent notes for each semester!
Discipline: While there are few problems with senior discipline beyond attendance issues, I do not tolerate disruptions to my class. Come to class IN UNIFORM with all necessary materials. I will treat you as maturely as you
behave. Respect your peers and instructors and have a great senior year.

Handouts provided in class, so you need several dividers for your personal convenience!
NO SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS, please!
Do not write a final draft in pencil! I won’t grade it! Pen or typed only on final drafts.
