Explain how the session will work.
“We will looking at some scenarios. You will decide if the piece of information indicates that the board member(s) is practicing their Oversight role properly or Overstepping. I if you think they are Overseeing properly move to this side of the room (point direction). If you think they are Overstepping move to this side (point direction) / Communication scenario
Show each bullet point one at a time. Ask participants to move to Oversight or Overstepping side of the room. (If you choose not to have participants move you can have them point or designate hand signals like one for Oversight or three for Overstepping) / Have individuals define the following:
Oversight
Oversight vs. Overstepping
Have small groups define
Oversight
Oversight vs. Overstepping / Personnel scenario
Show each bullet point one at a time. Ask participants to move to Oversight or Overstepping side of the room. (If you choose not to have participants move you can have them point or designate hand signals like one for Oversight or three for Overstepping) / (this can be done here or before Scenario 2)
Have groups share with the large group how they defined terms:

When people share with the large group encourage them to define the terms in their own words rather than reading off the handout.(one option is to pass out the handout after this debrief)

Activities / The presenter will describe the terms:
Oversight

Management Corporate Body / (optional)
Describe the board’s Oversight role like forest rangers in the fire tower. The rangers call on others to check out the problems rather than leaving their post. Like the board lets the superintendent and staff handing the administrative issues rather than “jumping down from the tower” to “handle complaints” / The presenter will continue describing terms:
Oversight and Overstepping
Give participants a chance to fill in the blank spaces of the handout. (you might like to ask them what they think the blank spaces are before revealing them) / (optional if you have time, you’ll probably need a session longer than 75 minutes to do three scenarios)
Personnel scenario
