DOULA CO-ORDINATOR AND SUPERVISOR

Introduction to Birth For HumanKIND:

Birth for HumanKIND is a recently established not-for-profit organisation supporting vulnerable, at-risk and disadvantaged women through their pregnancy and birth. Our mission is to provide quality education, support and care for women in vulnerable, at-risk or otherwise disadvantaged circumstances during pregnancy, birth and after the baby comes. We do this through offering free one-to-one doula support, education sessions and information, networking and referrals to other support services. Our professional volunteer doulas offer prenatal home visits, labour support and help at home after the baby comes.

The Doula Co-ordinator and Supervisor provides a pivotal co-ordination and support role for our volunteer doulas. We currently have ten active doulas, and will be doing another volunteer recruitment in the coming months.

This role would suit someone dedicated to community, supporting those in need, and wanting to be a core part of a passionate team during this exciting phase of establishing our organisation.

Role and Candidate Profile:

Title: Doula Co-ordinator and Supervisor

Reports to: Manager

Hours: 12 hours per week

Flexible working hours, may involve some after-hours work and some on-call telephone support

Length of Contract: to 31 Jan 2016

This is a temporary replacement position, with the possibility that the role will be extended long-term.

Rate of pay: $38.75 per hour, contractor basis

You will initially be required to invoice fortnightly under an ABN. We are anticipating to transition to payroll, commencing 1 July 2015.

Core duties and responsibilities:

Volunteer Doula Support & Supervision

  • Maintaining the volunteer doula database and records
  • Matching client referrals with volunteer doulas, including liaising with referral agencies and staff
  • Co-ordinate and provide one-to-one support, supervision and debriefing (including on-call) for volunteer doulas working with clients
  • Train and co-ordinateour more experienced volunteer doulas to assist in providing one-to-one support and debriefing for volunteer doulas working with clients
  • Maintain and foster regular communication with volunteer doulas, including quarterly check-ins with inactive doulas
  • Liaise with service agencies and care providers as required to follow up any feedback or complaints received about volunteer doulas or agency staff/occurrences**

Volunteer Doula Training & Development

  • Telephone interviewing potentialvolunteer doulas prior to induction
  • Co-developing and co-facilitating doula induction and training (paid at the hourly rate in addition to the regular hours)
  • Contributing to building resources, support systems and culture of volunteer doulas
  • Being involved with organising and facilitating on-going volunteer training, debriefing and quarterly gatherings

Additional Duties:

  • Maintaining hard copy, electronic files and database of all client forms and information
  • Attending fortnightly team meetings
  • Assisting in developing and managing policies, procedures and standards for volunteer doulas as required by the managers
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate to the role, as required by the managers

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Experienced midwife, with experience in or solid understanding of the doula role
  • Experience providing supervision and support
  • Counselling skills and experience
  • Experience working with interpreters (telephone and face-to-face)
  • Proven experience working with clients with complex needs, from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including refugees, asylum seekers, and young mums
  • Experience facilitating groups and developing and providing training
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and dedication to fostering quality relationships and team building
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organisational and data management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide own transport where necessary
