JOHN DOE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Donor Background: John Doe is the founder of ABC, Inc., the award-winning architectural firm in Newport Beach. ABC, Inc. has designed and implemented more than 400 designs throughout the world, including casino resorts in Las Vegas such as Treasure Island, The Mirage, The Venetian, MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, and The Bellagio. John Doe is an alumnus of Cal Poly Pomona and he and the Doe family have funded scholarships for the College of Environmental Design and College of Agriculture students for many years. The firm regularly hosts ENV students and faculty to various projects designed by the ABC, Inc. in Las Vegas, including the Wynn Resorts and Redrock Resort and Spa. Mr. Doealso benefitted from scholarship support while a student at CPP and credits that opportunity with making the difference in his academic and professional career.

Purpose: To provide unrestricted scholarship support to an undergraduate studentwho has demonstrated a stronglevel of academic achievement and a calculated financial need. The Doe award is intended to assist a studentpursuinga degree in the field oflandscape architecture.

Award amount:$10,000 annually, as funding permits.

Criteria (applicants must meet the following standards):

  • 3.0+ GPAwithsecond or third year class standing
  • Declared concentration within ENV, major of: LARC
  • Registered for a full-time course load
  • Limited to students with a calculated financial need
  • Citizen or non-citizen (eligible for security clearance)

Selection Process

  • Applicants must submit a completed application form and letter of recommendation to the Dean’s Office by February 15 of each year.
  • The qualified pool of applicants will be reviewed by the LARC scholarship selection committee and their top tier recommendations will be forwarded to the Chair of the Department for final selection by April 1.
  • Announcement of selection will be made to recipient by mid-April with formal presentation by donor at the annual scholarship reception in May.

Special Requirements: Prospective recipients will be required to submit one letter of recommendation from a non-student. This annual scholarship will be awarded to individuals who are self-starters, leaders, team players and multi-disciplined in focus. Minority and women candidates are particularly encouraged to apply. Students may not reapply for the scholarship. It is intended as a one-time award.
