All drawings must show full ranged, full valued, realistic renditions of the described subject matter. Each assignment must take 1 hour to complete.

Sketchpad assignments are due WEEKLY on THURSDAY ONLY. Each assignment must take 1 hour to complete and include the elements of art. Work will be graded on a scale of 1-10. Work that is one week late can score 1-6. Work two weeks late is a “0”.

1. NOV 19: IN FULL COLOR, using a mirror or a photograph, draw yourself screaming. Your face should fill at least a third of the asymmetrical composition.

2. NOV 25: Select a fruit or vegetable. Draw it several times in the same still life composition. Use multiple points of view, the fruit to vegetable intact, partially open and opened to see the internal line structures and design. Place a knife, vegetable peeler or some other utensil in the drawing, all in appropriate setting.

3. DEC 3: IN FULL COLOR, draw a surreal drawing including everyday objects with at least two angels, monsters, dragons, elves, fairies or aliens. Have the life forms interacting with the objects, doing something like peeking around them, sitting on them or eating them.

4. Dec 10: Draw a single light colored or metallic object. Remember you will have to exaggerate the values to get a good range from lights to dark. Add a wallpaper type background.

5. DEC 17: Using pen and ink draw a page full of feathers.

6. DEC 22: Using pen and ink draw an old pair of tennis shoe, with shoestrings.

7. JAN 7: Sketch 4 different architectural elements, windows, doors, stairs, columns, etc. Don’t put more than 2 on one page. These elements should be drawn large and completely shaded with pencil. Rather than drawing the whole front of a building, just draw parts of it. You can draw elements from the inside or outside of houses or buildings in town.

8. JAN 14: Insect/Machine drawing: IN FULL COLOR, draw each one independently first. Then do two combination drawings. First combine more bug than machine. Then draw more machine than bug.
