Pleased to inform you that all councils have been doing great

Review of handout, 74 new members, membership plans due Sept 30th

6. IRA Coordinator’s Report Eric MacDonald

Sept. 30: KSRA Treasurer Report-this is a safety mechanism in case we need to help

the councils

Oct. 31 IRA Local Service Award-refer to website to find out more

Nov. 26 IRA Honor Council deadline, 2 different award systems IRA Honor and KSRA

has it’s own award programs

July 17 - 20, 2015 IRA St. Lewis, MO, share anniversary dates for special recognition

7. Governmental Relations Committee Millie Henning

Advocacy Goals

KSRA is one of only 6 states who received the Advocacy Award

Requirements-To Educate, To Activate, To Organize

To qualify, committee needs hard evidence of council activities relevant to

advocacy

Millie will present at the conference, attendees will receive an advocacy toolbox

PAC-TE (Who goes?) need representatives to connect with this group

8. President’s Report Julie B. Wise

Working closely with Reading Today, this year for Jan/Feb issue to have special focus:

Why BYOD complements literacy instruction vs Why BYOD should be outlawed

ABC’s of KSRA - Advocate, Build Value, Collaborate

Develop Strategies for connecting to educators across PA, Empowerment of literacy

for students and parents, Flexible to new ideas to keep KSRA relevant

Challenge to talk to 3 people, reference to ALS Bucket Challenge to Advocate for Awareness, Throughout the day, add to the alpha boxes

Grants to help local councils, up to $300.00 to help with teachers as readers, January 23, 2015-there is a search box on KSRA site to preview the books

Lynn Morley, Michael Williams, council presidents please announce the exemplary reading program, $750.00 for winning school. Literacy Fest with Tri County Reading Association will be held Brook Valley Middle School in Collegeville PA
