Summary

The Crisis Visual Communications team is seeking a temporary junior graphic designer to assist with design projects as well as the implementation of a new digital asset management system. The primary purpose of this new role will be to assist the Senior Visual Communications Officer in the overall organisation of Crisis’ vast photo/video archive, preparing all assets for migration into a new digital system. The post holder will also contribute creatively to selected design projects for print and web and play a pivotal role in coordinating Crisis at Christmas event branding.

Dimensions

  • Responsible for advising internal and external stakeholders on resources available to them for routine creative tasks
  • No responsibility for staff or budget management

Circumstances

  • Part time, 20 hours per week
  • Temporary four month fixed term contract
  • Based at Crisis Head Office, 66 Commercial Street,London E1 6LT
  • Occasional out of hours work, especially over the Christmas period. Occasional travel to regional offices across England and Scotland.

Salary

  • £15 per hour
  • £5,824 per annum (£27,300 per annum pro rata)

Principal accountabilities

Design and print (portfolio required at interview)

  • Design and production of selected Crisis print and web collateral using Adobe Creative Suite, CMS and HTML email systems for PC
  • Advise and guide colleagues to ensure elements of brand identity are used appropriately
  • Provide advice and practical assistance to colleagues with the Crisis brand, branded materials, templates, logos, etc.
  • Create branded materials for conferences, events, fundraising and Crisis service delivery, under supervision of Visual Communications Manager
  • Crisis at Christmas coordination including signage and information material design and placement. Monitoring stock levels, organising storage and reporting on usage
  • Liaising with print suppliers, obtaining quotes, placing orders and quality control
  • Undertake colour correction/adjustment of photographic resources as necessary

Digital asset coordination

  • Assist Senior Visual Communications Officer in curating existing files in preparation for migration into new digital asset management system consisting of still images, video file formats and text documents
  • Organise assets according to the project implementation plan and system design prepared by Senior Visual Communications Officer
  • Apply unique metadata to each asset including controlled keywords, copyright information and terms of use
  • Digitise back log of model release forms and ensure assets are linked to a release form when necessary recording any specified restrictions
  • Process new assets as they become available – upload, tag and file within the new system
  • Investigate into history of older files. Liaise with internal teams to determine appropriate data to build into assets

General accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
  • Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Carry out duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job
  • To provide general administrative support where needed

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Experience of working with proprietary digital asset management system or media library database software
  2. Understanding of metadata and keyword management
  3. Strong organisational and analytical skills
  4. Demonstrable graphic design experience, ideally with professional qualification in this area, including use of a variety of creative packages (Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge and Acrobat, plus knowledge of HTML, Dreamweaver, CSS and content management systems, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, scanners, databases)
  5. Experience of working in a busy office or studio environment
  6. Demonstrable experience of organising and administering office systems
  7. Knowledge of litho and digital print processes and readying artwork for print
  8. Knowledge of maintaining branding guidelines across a variety of media
  9. Excellent oral and written communications skills, to include proofing and copy-editing
  10. Commitment to Crisis’s purpose and values including equality and social inclusion

Desirable

  1. Familiarity with UK copyright law in regards to photography and video as well as experience negotiating and enforcing licenses and terms and conditions of use
  2. Awareness of UK privacy law in relation to model releases
  3. Ability to use Word and PowerPoint to its fullest potential (creating templates and applying paragraph styles)
  4. Experience in using Excel to analyse data and create reports
  5. Knowledge of photography and filming techniques, ability to edit using FinalCut Pro for Mac
