The ABC’s of School
Mrs. Wolfe’s Class 2016-2017
A- ALL-It is my firm belief that ALL children can learn. We will be working diligently with your child to help him/her experience success in second grade.
B-Bathroom/Water Breaks- We schedule regular breaks throughout the day. Your child is encouraged to use these breaks rather than missing valuable time in the classroom. If your child has a medical problem that requires more frequent breaks, please let me know.
C- Common Core- We have fully implementedthe common core curriculum in math and language arts. “The (common core) standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.”
D-Discipline-A copy of the specific discipline plan for our class is being sent for you to review with your child. Behavior will be recorded in your child’s folder.
E- Expect to be on time-School begins at 8:30. Students who habitually arrive late miss important instructional time.
Ear Buds-Each student will need a pair of ear bud type headphones for their personal use with various types of technology in the classroom.
F- Field Trips- We are allowed one field trip each semester.
G- GoingHome- Please send a note if there will be a change in the way your child is getting home.
H- Homework- Written homework is assigned weekly. See the “Classroom Times” newsletter for additional information. Test dates, weekly skills, and important notes will be recorded on this newsletter.
I- Instructional Time- It is important for each student to follow our class rules. Proper behavior enhances the learning environment for all students.
J- Just a note- If you have any questions or concerns, just send me a note or an e-mail (). Communication is key to helping our students succeed.
K- Kagan- I am looking forward to utilizing Kagan Learning Structures in our classroom again this year. Kagan is a method of cooperative grouping that fosters the engagement and equal participation of all students.
L- Lunch- Parents are welcome to have lunch with their children.
M- Money- Please put any money in the zippered pencil bag in your child’s daily folder. Please specify its purpose (i.e. lunch money, field trip, workbooks,etc.) to avoid confusion. Once money is put into a student’s lunch account, it cannot be used for another purpose.
N- No toys please!
O- Office- To contact me or schedule an appointment, please call the office at 662-342-2330. You may also leave messages through voicemail. My extension is #329.
P- Parties- We will be allowed to have classroom parties on several special occasions this year.
Q- Quiet, Please- Students will be instructed to be quiet in the hall, lunch line, independent work, and testing. This is a courtesy to other students and classes. We will certainly have social time as well during cooperative groups, centers, free time, and many other activities.
R- Report Cards- A standards-based report card will be sent at the end of each nine weeks grading period for you to review your child’s progress.
REMIND-Remind is a free, safe, and simple messaging tool that helps teachers share important updates and reminders with students & parents.
S- Schedule- Our class schedule will be posted on my website.
T- Tests- Check the “Classroom Times” for reminders about upcoming tests.
U-Unique-Each child is a unique individual. I will be sending home a questionnaire for you to complete about your child.
V- Visiting- All visitors must report to the office and receive a visitor’s pass before coming to the classroom.
W- Weekly Papers- Assessments will be sent home on Mondays in a green folder. Please sign and return the folder the following day.
Water Bottles-The students will be allowed to have water bottles with screw on caps or sports bottles with PLAIN water to drink in class.
X- eX-tra fun- Students need to be rewarded for a job well done.
Y- You- You are the most important person in your child’s life. Thank you in advance for your support.
Z- Zzzzz!- Please make sure that your child gets plenty of sleep. School is a very demanding job!
