Marinette Middle School Art Teacher – Brenda Socha
· The new school year is off to a great start and students have been creating some fantastic artwork! I have been working on the MMS art gallery and students are excited to have their work displayed. The art gallery is located in the hallway just off the Middle School lobby. Feel free to stop in and see what you child has been creating! The art room and art gallery will be open for viewing also during P/T conferences on November 6th and 8th from 3:30 – 6:30 pm. Hope to see you then.
· Thank you to everyone who participated in the Art to Remember fundraiser for the MMS art room (5th, 6th and 7th grades). The artwork and orders have been sent in on time and your custom order products should be arriving around November 6th. I will be sending home orders and the original artwork with your child. If you would prefer to pick up your order please feel free to contact me to make arrangements. J If you missed turning in an order I can send in a late order, however your items are not guaranteed to arrive for the holidays. I would need to send in a late order on Monday, October 22nd so have order packets and artwork in by that date!
· Sometimes accidents happen in the art room! On occasion paint or glaze get spilled and may get on your child’s clothing. Glaze easily washes out of clothing; however the acrylic paint we use may take some work. I tell students the acrylic paint stains clothing. I have painting jackets available for your child to wear if they choose and most students remove nice sweatshirts/sweaters and hang them far away from paints.
· I have started an after school Art Club for all MMS students; even if they are not currently in an art class they may participate. Students interested in Art Club should see me for a permission slip and more information. I will be making a November calendar of Art Club nights after I have a better idea of how many students are interested towards the end of October.
· Recycled items! The art room uses many recycled materials. If you have any of the following and would like to send them with your child we will gladly use them. Plastic gallon ice cream pails (with or without lids), heavy weight or thick yarn, plastic Gerber baby food containers with lids, old ribbon, lace or cool fabric scraps.

The art room web page is updated weekly and includes class and Art Club information, art links to activity pages, local museum and exhibit information, online classroom photo gallery and more!
