Ram Aberasturia, MAC Chair called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m. and thanked those in attendance for their participation.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the meeting of March 21, 2012 were distributed electronically via the list serv. The minutes require an amendment to add Ellen Carter to the attendance roster and to indicate under Credentialsthat Ellen had not received any information to report on changes to the MAC membership. A motion was passed unanimously to approve the minutes, as amended.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer’s report was distributed electronically via the list serv. Claudia Helfgott reported that there has been a dividend of $1.47 credited to the account as of March 31, 2012. The balance as of that date is$1,686.90. The Treasurer’s report was accepted unanimously, as submitted.

Committee Reports

Credentials. In the absence of Ellen Carter, MAC Credentials Chair, there was no report.

Old Business

Speakers and Logistics. An invitation had been extended to Office of Policy and Management Secretary Benjamin Barnes, and he has confirmed his acceptance to speak at the June 20 meeting. DOT Conference Rooms A and B have been reserved, but a larger space may be needed. There was discussion of the auditorium at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as a possible alternate site. Peggy Zabawar volunteered to set up a registration process via the Department of Administrative Services Learning Center. Peggy will draft a notice for review by the officers. She will indicate that registration is for managers only, and will request that questions be submitted in advance. We will try to get the registration process live on or around May 1. Chris Beloff indicated that Cordula has accepted his invitation to speak at the May 16 meeting. She will speak at 10:00 a.m., and her topic will be Micro-Inequities in the Workplace. The next available speaker’s slot is October 17. Deb Paradis will invite Commissioner Stefan Pryor to speak on Education Reform. There was discussion of having a speaker on Health Care Reform at an upcoming meeting, possibly in December.

Orientation Committee. Peggy Zabawarhad nothing new to report.

Web Site/Communications Committee. Peggy Zabawar reported that updates to the web site are in process, including updating of officers/biographies, the Representatives/Alternates listing, and the minutes.

Legislative Committee. Elise Kremer reported that the reporting out deadlines for the various legislative committees have passed. Most of the bills that were included in last month’s legislative report are dead, although there is always the possibility that issues could resurface as amendments to bills that in progress. A list of bills that were being tracked and that are still alive is attached to these minutes.

Managers Day Planning Committee. Ram reported that he has submitted a request to OPM for support for speakers’ honoraria and awards for Managers Day 2012An invitation will be extended for Governor Malloy or Lieutenant Governor Wyman to attend and give remarks. The planning committee is actively meeting, and working on developing a theme and potential speakers.

Position Statement. Ram had nothing further to report on the status of the position paper. He indicated that he had received a call from the Association of Managerial Employees in Connecticut State Service (AMECSS), thanking MAC for developing the position statement. AMECSS continues to express concerns regarding “comparable treatment” of managerial and collective bargaining employees.

Other Old Business. There was no other Old Business.

New Business

There was no New Business.

The meeting was adjourned at9:34 a.m. The list of those in attendance at the April 18, the Treasurer’s report, and the legislative reportare attached and are hereby made a part of these minutes.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in Conference Room B at the Department of Transportation. As noted above, Cordula will be the guest speaker at 10:00 a.m.
