Hours: / 35 hours per week
Salary: / £30,000 (plus pension contribution – 2% of salary)
Days & Times: / Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm. The candidate must also be prepared to work occasional unsociable hours – for which time off in lieu will be offered.

Main Purposes of the Job

To be responsible for owning and implementing Age UK B&NES’s new fundraising strategy in order to increase income and to develop a diverse range of income streams, offering a strong return on investment, in order to help make Age UK B&NES’s services more sustainable.

To assume responsibility for the organisation’s communication and marketing activities, in order to raise awareness of the need for support from the local community and to market the organisation’s services and activities.

To deputise for the Chief Executive; acting up when the Chief Executive is away, to motivate and support the team, and to help to make key operational and strategic decisions.

Key Fundraising tasks / responsibilities

  • To raise funds from charitable trusts and foundations
  • To undertake research into charitable trusts and other funding bodies
  • To cultivate existing relationships including writing of progress / impact reports and liaising with other staff about outcomes / evaluation of services.
  • To implement a programme of applications to trusts and foundations.
  • Maximising income from individuals
  • To develop a supporter journey process in order to maximise the lifetime value of individual supporters (including focusing on developing and implementing a legacy marketing programme)
  • To manage a programme of appeals / direct marketing activities – including focusing on developing support through Age UK’s lottery scheme
  • To maximise income via Gift Aid
  • To raise funds through In Memoriam donations
  • To develop strong partnerships with local funeral directors and exploit other opportunities to attract In Memoriam donations
  • To maximise income opportunities through corporate partnerships
  • To develop mutually beneficial partnerships with local companies, to secure income and gifts in kind.
  • To maximise support from the local community
  • To motivate people to take part in organised sporting events, or to organise their own fundraising events
  • To persuade local clubs and organisations to offer support.
  • To develop a mass participation, annual event to inspire support from the local community.
  • To work towards developing a local committee, responsible for organising at least one high profile fundraising event each year.
  • To research and pursue any relevant opportunities for funding from statutory sources and from Age UK (national)
  • Volunteer Management
  • To recruit a team of volunteers to assist in delivering the various aspects of the fundraising strategy
  • To manage, motivate and train volunteers to maximise their input.

Communications and marketing work

  • To develop a strong culture of fundraising and awareness of the need to fundraise within the organisation itself
  • Giving talks / ensuring sufficient communication / updates internally
  • To ensure that beneficiaries and the local community are very aware of the organisation’s funding needs and that they are motivated to offer support
  • To work with the local media to maximise local coverage / awareness of funding needs / achievements.
  • To manage the Communications Assistant and oversee work developing the website (to maximise fundraising and organisational marketing opportunities), maximising social media opportunities and producing the charity’s newsletter.
  • To undertake marketing and communications activities to promote the services and activities of the organisation – to ensure they are reaching the right audiences, maximising uptake etc.
  • Promote the key values, aims and objectives of Age UK B&NES
  • Promote a culture of cross organisational working by communicating the priorities in your team to the wider organisation
  • Be aware of the priorities and pressures at all levels in the organisation and contribute to shared problem solving strategies
  • Contribute to marketing and publicity relating to promoting the services of the organisation.

Administration

  • To ensure that the database is used to record details of all supporters
  • To maintain efficient administrative systems to ensure that supporters are thanked and are kept up to date on the impact of their support

Budgetary management

  • To take responsibility for developing the fundraising budget each year, for reviewing it continuously and for updating the CEO and Trustees.

Deputising for Chief Executive

  • To act as a member of the Senior Management Team, working with the CEO on organisational strategic work, business decisions, and deputising for her as necessary.
  • To attend regular meetings with the Chief Executive
  • To take responsibility for staff and operational management in the Chief Executive’s absence.
  • To assist in making key decisions – eg about new developments / staffing etc.

General

  • To maintain own professional expertise, including attending training / networking events as necessary
  • To evaluate fundraising progress on a monthly basis and submit brief progress reports to CEO / Trustees and be subject to an annual appraisal.
  • Attend staff meetings, away days and other similar staff events.
  • Represent Age UK B&NES and develop and maintain high quality relationships
  • Be motivated and flexible and use your organisational skills to plan your own workload within priorities and goals.
