Fire Science Conditioning
Catalog Description:
PHED 2FSC – Fire Science Conditioning 1 unit
This course is a physical conditioning class that will prepare students for the physical-fitness testing at Fire and Police academies. The students will learn proper warm-up and stretching techniques. They will develop a recovery base for their cardio-respiratory conditioning. Through the proper weight-training methods, both muscular endurance and muscular strength will increase. Also, there will be outdoor work-out sessions where aerobic conditioning, muscular endurance and physical agility will be developed. 2 hour class sessions - 1 hour to be arrange.
Prerequisite Skills:
None
Expected Outcomes for the Students:
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. have an understanding and develop:
a. aerobic fitness
b. muscular strength and endurance
c. improved agility
2. proper lifting techniques.
3. improve recovery time after exercise.
4. understand the psychological affect of mental fatigue.
5. attempt to develop an acceptance of physical fitness work-outs as a lifetime habit.
Course Content:

Methods of Presentation:
Primarily by lecture and demonstration. Group and individual instructional techniques will be employed by the instructor.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Class attendance and active participation in all phases is required.
Textbook:
There will not be a textbook that is required, but informational material will be handed out.
Special Student Material:
Proper work-out clothes are required. Proper conduct and decorum is expected. See course syllabus.
