Biomes of the World

Group Research

Period:______Group Members:______

Your group will be researching a biome, and preparing a visual to summarize your research. You will also present to the class the reasons why your biome is the best place to live.

Biome assigned:______

Characteristics of the Biome: Research your biome, using the sites listed on the blog and the books in the classroom, to cover the following points. You may have to use multiple sources to find all the information

1.  Location – Include a map of the world that shows the location of your biome.

2.  Climate – This should include a picture, chart or graph showing climate conditions- the average temperature in Celsius and average yearly rainfall in centimeters.

3.  Biotic features – Include information about plants and about animals. Pictures and a short list would be appropriate.

4.  Abiotic Features – This should include examples of abiotic features unique to your biome. For example: forest fire in a grassland biome or permafrost in the tundra rather than sunlight, which is in all biomes.

5.  Other important information including interesting facts about your assigned biomes

6.  Include a sample food chain or food web that could be found in your biome. This should have at least 5 organisms.

7.  Create a simple poster on paper provided to display your research.

Note: If your biome has several names you should mention all of them. If your biome has various parts or levels, like the oceans and ponds, you should include that information. Freshwater and grassland groups need to research the difference between different types of ecosystems within your biome group.

You will have three class periods to research and prepare your poster. Use your time wisely. All group members should be involved. Split up the research and the parts of the poster so you will finish on time
