1. DEP Responsibilities:
a. Define the mission of the Navy:
- The mission of the United States Navy is to protect and defend the right of the United States and our allies to move freely on the oceans and to protect our country against her enemies.
b. Recite the eleven general orders of a sentry:
- To take charge of my post and all government property in view.
- To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
- To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.
- To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the Guardhouse than my own.
- To quit my post only when properly relieved.
- To receive, obey and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the Deck, and Officers and Petty Officers of the Watch only.
- To talk to no one except in the line of duty.
- To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
- To call the Officer of the Deck in any case not covered by instructions.
- To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.
- To be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post, and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
c. Recite the Sailor’s Creed:
- I am a United States Sailor.
- I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will obey the orders of those appointed over me.
- I represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world.

d. Explain the RTC Maxim:
- I will not lie, cheat, or steal nor tolerate those among us who do.
e. Explain the program for which you enlisted:
- The U.S. NSW/NSO/AIRR are the world’s preeminent Special Operations fighting force in the world, and are expected to possess the mental and physical toughness required to uphold such a distinction. An NSW/NSO/AIRR operator is defined by their honor, loyalty, integrity, and commitment to excellence, team, and country. SO training prepares operators to perform a wide range of missions in some of the most hostile environments in the world, which they perform in defense of America, her people and allies.
f. Explain your responsibilities to your recruiter:
- Treat them with the same courtesy and respect they provide you.
- Be honest and forthcoming when providing information for your enlistment application.
- Notify your recruiter to any changes in your status to include education, health, police involvement, drug use or dependency.
g. How many times are you required to contact your recruiter?
- Once a week by phone, and three times a month in person, one of which will be the DEP meeting for my recruiting office.
h. Explain your conduct while in the DEP:
- My conduct while in the DEP is expected to reflect the conduct expected of a United States Sailor, which is to include a commitment to Honor, Courage and Commitment.
2. Navy Core Values:
a. Define Honor:
- Honor is fulfilling or exceeding my legal and ethical responsibilities in my public and personal life 24 hours a day.
b. Define Courage:
- Courage is the value that gives us the moral and mental strength to do what is right even in the face of personal or professional adversity.
c. Define Commitment:
- Commitment is displaying loyalty to a cause or organization under all circumstances, and a refusal to quit on those beliefs regardless of the situation.
3. Code of Ethics:
a. Explain the Navy’s Policy on Alcohol use:
- Alcohol use is unacceptable if underage. If of legal drinking age, good judgment must be used to drink responsibility.
b. Explain the Navy’s Drug Policy:
- Zero tolerance.
c. Explain the Navy’s Sexual Harassment Policy:
- Any unwanted physical contact or verbally inappropriate comments towards another person, military or civilian, is unacceptable. Committing such harassment isn’t tolerated, and should be reported if observed.
d. Explain Fraternization (While in DEP & Boot Camp)
- New recruits, once they arrive at RTC, will not be allowed to talk or socialize between the sexes. Any recruit that breaks this rule may be set back two weeks in training.
e. Explain your recruiters prohibited practices:
- Coach or entice you to provide false statements, records, or documents to effect your enlistment.
- Bribe or coerce you to process for enlistment.
- Intervene with police or judicial authorities on your behalf.
- Solicit to engage in, or engage in, any unofficial financial or business dealings with you.
- Transport you in their personally owned vehicle, gamble with you, or solicit or accept anything of value from you.

- Two. The initial test is on 1-3 day, and a final test about three days before Battle Stations and Graduation.
b. What is the maximum body fat percentage allowed at RTC?
- 22 percent for males, 33 % for females
6. Advancement:
a. Explain the different ways to get advance pay grade prior to attending RTC:
- By coming into the Navy with college credits, or by recommending friends to join the Navy.
b. Explain the Referral Recognition Program:
- By referring friends, coworkers, or others to your recruiter, you have the ability for advancement to pay grade E-2 or E-3, if those that you refer end up enlisting in the Navy.
c. Explain the minimum time in pay grade for normal advancement E-1 to E-4:
- By normal advancement, it will take 2 years to go from E-1 to E-4.
