Steps for ensuring that a PC that is outside of the GHS network can effectively communicate to GHS PACS. The idea is to configure your computer’s web browser so that it understands that when you navigate to a GHS site, that this site is considered trusted and that you intend to do business with it therefore allowing necessary communication. These steps are effective regardless of browser or operating system version. These steps are based on the exact buttons and phrasing used in Internet Explorer version 8. Other versions of IE will be either the same or contain only slight variations.
Preparing your Internet browser for effective communication:
- Right click on the browser Icon on the desktop (if Internet explorer is your default browser, which we highly recommend for connecting to GHS apps, it will be the big blue E).
- Select “Properties” from the menu that pops up. This will display the form containing your browser options.
- At the top of the form, select the “Security” tab.
- In the Zone selection box select the green checkmark labeled “Trusted sites.”
- Below and to the right of the Zone selection box is a button called “Sites.” This will display a new form called “Trusted Sites.” This is where you will tell your computer which sites specifically you intend to do business with.
- Uncheck the box at the bottom of the form requiring https: verification.
- In the top field add the following web address:
- *.gwinnettmedicalcenter.org
- The following can also be added for good measure.
- Close the form. This will save your entries and take you back to the “Internet Properties” form.
- Ensure that the “Trusted Sites” check box is still selected. Next click the “Custom Level” button near the bottom of the form. Ensure that this is set to “LOW.” If it is not, select “low” from the dropdown box, then hit the “reset” button to the left. This will reset it to low. Click “OK” to close the security settings form.
Connecting to GHS PACS, downloading components, and creating shortcuts:
- Open Internet Explorer and type the follow web address into the address bar:
- Once the page displays, right click somewhere on the page other than on a link or a picture and select “Create Shortcut” from the list. Click “OK” and the shortcut will be added to your desktop.
- Type in you username and password. This is your main, most basic, GHS account.
- You will then be prompted to enter Entrust Authentication. Reference your Entrust card to supply the 3 grid characters. You will be redirected to PACS.
- If you already have the latest version of PACS (HMI 11.5) downloaded to your computer, then the PACS will begin, after a couple of moments (it is an advanced piece of software), to display. You will know when it is done rendering and ready for you to use when you see the patient study list where you search for your patient.
- If you do not have the latest version of PACS downloaded to your computer yet, the system with recognize this and automatically begin downloading it for you. Please be patient as the advanced software may take several moments to download the installation files. After several moments, the installation will begin. You will simply need to accept all defaults and “Next” your way through the installation. Once complete, it will ask you if you want to go ahead and launch PACS. On subsequent attempts to launch PACS, after you Entrust authenticate, it will take you directly to PACS without having to download again.
- After you have finished using the PACS application, please log out gracefully by clicking on your name in the top right of the PACS display window, then click “quit.”
