The works belonging to the first set of young artists who earned the right to exhibit will be on display to art lovers at 'Borders, Orbits 03' between May 6th and June 13th. The exhibition contains the work of the young talents Fulden Aran, Sadık Arı, Mehmet Dağ, Alpaslan Karaaslan, Hacer Kıroğlu, Deniz Üster, Burcu Yağcıoğlu, Esra Yeşildağ and İlke Yılmaz.
"Borders, Orbits 03" has been compiled from works submitted to a competition open to all undergraduate and graduate students irrespective of discipline. Most of the works consist of paintings, installations and videos.
Mürteza Fidan, one of Siemens Sanat's curators, states that the concept of the exhibition comes from the fact that every global economy has developed politics of culture to correspond to their own existence especially after the second half of the 90's. Mürteza Fidan says this is a new paradigm: "Every paradigm causes one centre to disintegrate and new centres to form. Every new centre contains many paradoxes and conflicts within itself. For reconstitution one must also be ready for destruction".
Pointing out that Turkey is one of the most important centres of gravity of both the economic and cultural logistics of globalisation, Mürteza Fidan says that in our country, where the social reality of modernity does not find its reflection, we face the tearing up of homogeneity formed by multiple representations resulting from the collapse of the cultural pedestals of the concept.
Mürteza Fidan states that "At the same time head spinning developments in technology are reflected in everyday life as definitions of life; this everyday life appears to us as another tearing up of the fabric of society in which human relationships are not experienced directly but instead become distant, giving way to exciting representations".
Facing the fissures in fabric of society created by these tears indicated by Mürteza Fidan, nineteen young artists whose works constitute 'Borders Orbits' 03 and 04, try to open up the jammed channels and reconnect the layers of reality with a low-key style that is at times serene and at other times hostile.
One of the young artists whose works are in the exhibition, Burcu Yağcıoğlu, demands that the viewer through her paintings discover the subjective and the spontaneous. Mehmet Dağ's installation indicates hollowed out cultural signs. Alpaslan Karaaslan determines the blurring of a cultural form of today and objective knowledge with a momentary selection of the camera.
İlke Yılmaz's work brings the viewer face to face with the form indicators of the absence of venues in global activism. Hacer Kıroğlu warns of impositions directed at the individual and of the necessity of the production of forms of resistance. Sadık Arı reveals mythological forms of real time in his patterns. Fulden Aran develops silent forms of dialog in her paintings. Esra Yeşildağ builds fairy-tale like Utopian shelters. Deniz Üster analyses signs of objects of desire in her installations.
The competition's Evaluation Committee consists of Ahu Antmen, Levent Çalıkoğlu Mürteza Fidan, T.Melih Görgün, Marcus Graf, Berika İpekbayrak, Borga Kantürk, Gülsün Karamustafa and Alp Yörük. Works of other young artists whose works are deemed successful in the competition will be on display at the 'Borders, Orbits 04" exhibition between June 25th and July 31st.
'Borders, Orbits 03' is open to visitors between May 7th and June 13th, everyday of the week between 10:00 and 19:00 at Siemens Sanat.
