·  Wednesday is Twin (or multiples) Day, sponsored by the Student Council. Please dress the same as one or more friends.

·  It’s not too late to sign up for Club Glenfield. Permission slips will be made available at the door and tickets are only $30. Come join us for basketball, dodgeball, fitness arcade, swimming, dancing, the hip chic room, dj, etc. tomorrow night at the Montclair YMCA from 7:30-10:30.

·  Tryouts for Glenfield’s first Solar-Powered Car Team will be held on Tuesday, March 29th (2:10 - 3:30). Sixteen team members will build solar powered cars and race them against approximately 3,200 participants. The event will be held on Saturday, May 16th (7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) For further details, please contact Ms. Washington

·  Tickets for the Spring Dance Show (April 7th/ 7:00-8:30) are now for sale in the main office. Tickets are $5/$7 for students/adults. Make checks payable to Glenfield Middle School and buy early, this event is usually sold out. For a trailer, check out Monday’s Prime Time (vimeo.com search Glenfield Prime Time).

·  Friday, April 15 is the Fourth Annual glenFIELD Day. Our Coordinated School Health (formerly Health/Wellness) Team, along with the Montclair YMCA and Glenfield PTA will sponsor the days’ events. We are looking for parent volunteers to work two hour shifts (Grade 6 - 8:00-10:00; Grade 7 - 9:45-11:45 or Grade 8 - 11:45-1:45) If you are interested, please contact Mr. Papa

·  Glenfield’s first school-wide 24 Challenge will be held after school in June (date tba). There will be twolevels, Junior Varsity (grade 6) and Varsity (grades 7 and 8). Be on the lookout for game rules and sample tournament rounds on Prime Time next month. Tryouts for our school Junior Varsity and Varsity teams will be held in May. There will be 8 Junior Varsity team members and 16 Varsity Team members. Details will follow - if interested, please contact Mrs. Washington

·  Correction to last week’s newsletter: Glenfield parents wrote over 90 Weston Nominations this year; tops in the district and an all-time Glenfield record! Next year, we are going for triple digits.

·  On Thursday, coaches from MHS will meet with students interested in playing on the Freshmen Football Team in September. The meeting will be held in the library during seventh period elective classes.

·  Now that spring is finally here, we would like to take a moment to remind you that Glenfield has two bike racks for students to utilize. One is located in front, next to the flagpole and the other is on the north side of the building. Please remember to bring your own locks and wear a helmet.

·  The Kaneda family (Benji-House Gill) has donated Origami paper which will be sold in the library during lunch periods on Tuesday for $1. Origami-trained volunteers will be present to teach our students how to make Origami cranes, which will be sent to Japan as a small token of sympathy. The money raised will be donated to the American Red Cross – Japan Fund. Please encourage your child to participate.

·  Attention Dance Parents! Please check out the Glenfield website (right hand column) for an up-to-date schedule of after school dance rehearsals.

·  On Tuesday, April 5, the Glenfield PTA will meet in the library at 7:00. Immediately following (7:30), the Glenfield School Action Team will view Inside Montclair High School, a documentary about our sister school. The film is approximately one hour and is designed for students* and parents.

o  *Please note: our 8th graders will have an opportunity to view this film later in the year during the school day.

Kids Corner: Three of Mrs. Kondreck's students - Ethan Hsia (House Belmonte), Hannah Brown (House Lofrano), and Monique Baltzer (House Dominick) - have been chosen to display their artwork in an exhibition hosted by Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo for the month of March in honor of Youth Art Month. The artwork has been displayed for the entire month in the Essex County Hall of Records in Newark, NJ and a reception is being held on March 29.

Kids Corner II: Congratulations to Skylar Podvey (House Dominick)! Last weekend her hockey team (New Jersey Colonials) won the Atlantic District Championship and is now headed to Detroit, Michigan to compete against the top U12 teams from across the country. The tournament takes place April 6-10.

Kids Corner III: Congratulations to Mira Tesla (House Gill) - she was recently accepted into MIT’s prestigious “You Go Girl” Summer Science Program!

Kids Corner IV: Congratulations to Mr. Kitts’ Acting students! Last Saturday, they entered the Chatham Middle School Drama Competition and won 11 trophies in the following categories: Dramatic Pairs: First Place Coco Dollon and Julia DeSalvo; Fourth Place Teddi Mattox and Maya Newman. Improvisation: First Place Emily Astarita, Dahlia Harris and Katie Severson. Comedic Pairs: Finalists Maiya Blaney and Lillian Herrick. Comedic Monologue: Shay Battle and Lillian Herrick.

Kids Corner V: Congratulations to Claudia Stagoff-Belfort, Aidan Dunn, Dominique Minars and Edwin Estrada for participating (and winning a T-Shirt) in MFEE’s Alex Rider Trivia Contest this past week.
