Salary Range / Range from $61,497 - $66,568 p.a. depending on qualifications and experience

Position Purpose

This position supports the efficient delivery of programs for Cape York NRM. The position is responsible for facilitating effective engagement and participation of Cape York people in sustainable natural resource management (NRM) across the Cape York natural resource management region.

The position is guided by Cape York NRM’s Engagement for Participation Strategy, Communications and Marketing Strategy, Cape York natural resource management plan, and community regional investment strategy.

Key Accountabilities

●  Provide engagement support to Traditional Owners and the project team for the Cape York Cassowary Project

●  Support the growth of Cape York NRM’s Indigenous Sector Zones

●  Maintain and enhance strategic, influential and mutually-beneficial partnerships with Cape York NRM’s key stakeholder groups

●  Support Cape York’s Aboriginal local governments to implement the draft Cape York Peninsula Biosecurity Plan 2016-2021 and represent Cape York NRM at regional biosecurity forums

●  Develop and implement an engagement annual work plan in conjunction with Communications and Engagement Manager, based on Cape York NRM’s Engagement for Participation Strategy, Integrated Communications and Marketing Strategy, Cape York NRM Plan, community regional investment strategy and funded operational milestones

●  Work closely with Cape York NRM team, Cape York organisations and land managers, land trusts, Indigenous groups, local government, conservation sector, community groups, schools and other groups as required

●  Develop and deliver project specific community capacity building and community education activities

●  Positively raise awareness of Cape York NRM’s activities, programs and opportunities for participation in program delivery and events on Cape York

●  Utilise,and contribute to Cape York NRM's Atlas as a tool for engagement, promoting the living and adaptive NRM plan

●  Contribute to project delivery including planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluating and reporting against milestones and project outcomes

Organisation-wide responsibilities

·  Participate as required in multidisciplinary working group arrangements

·  Participate in performance review processes

·  Perform all duties in accordance with Cape York Natural Resource Management policies and procedures and code of conduct

·  Actively promote and foster a culture whereby all managers and employees comply with Workplace Health and Safety provisions in each workplace.

Additional Factors

·  Open ‘C’ class drivers’ licence required, with experience driving 4WD vehicles essential

·  The position requires you to work flexible hours which includes out of ordinary working hours and weekends

·  The position requires frequent remote travel involving overnight stays, camping outdoors and may also require inter-state travel

·  The person will be passionate about working with people and improving landscapes

·  This position is based in Cape York NRM’s Cooktown office, however, working from another Cape York location may be considered

Selection Criteria

·  A solid understanding of, and demonstrated experience in, natural resource management on Cape York with knowledge of the role of Cape York NRM.
·  Demonstrated project management skills and experience, including the ability to develop and work within budgets, meet deadlines, and maximise results from limited resources. Ability to compile reports and submissions, use internet-based applications, with strong computer literacy.
·  Demonstrated ability to communicate across all sectors; and specifically, demonstrated experience engaging well with Indigenous people, land trusts, local governments and Traditional Owners on Cape York.
·  Experience in facilitating groups, negotiation, and helping groups to work towards common goals.
·  Demonstrated ability to organise and attend meetings, events, field days and workshops.
·  Experience and/or qualifications in community engagement, preferably within natural resource management or environmental management.
·  Ability to work flexible hours and frequently travel remotely. ‘C’ class open drivers’ licence held, with experience driving 4WD vehicles essential.
