Section VI Girl’s Basketball Pre Season committee meeting

June 10, 2012 9:30am

Attendance: Chris Durr (Chairman), Bill Shaw (NFL), Frank Martin (CCAA)

I.  SITES: There were no complaints on the sites for the semi finals or the finals form last playoff season.

·  Explore using JCC for the C1/C2 crossover as a double header with the boys.

·  Times: We will be looking to change the times of the games during the February break from 7pm to some time in the afternoon. We will continue to leave the Saturday quarter finals at 2pm.

·  NCCC: We will continue to use this site for the Sectional Finals. Received a lot of feed back on the quality of the site for the players and fans.

·  Must find a regional site. May look at the possibility of using Buffalo State since the boy’s regionals are in Rochester. NCCC does not provide the necessary seating for regional play. Canisius College is another possibility. We will look to split the regionals into 2 days. Friday, 5:30 and 8:00 and Saturday. 1:00, 3:30, and 6:00.

·  Semi sites: There was no negative feedback from any of the sites.

II.  OFFICIALS: Will continue to use home board officials for the pre quarters and quarters. There are just too many problems trying to get one official from each board to do a playoff game that early in the tournament. Some to the problems include: Game schedule, non-preferred lists, travel, college games, availability, and officials that do both boys and girls games.

·  Bill will put together a scenario for conflicts with officials to show other members of the committee what problems exist and in turn can take it back to their coaches that they represent.

III.  CLASSIFICATIONS: We will be looking into the A class and C class to determine if they need to be split. Good possibility that the A’s will not be split for the 2012-13 season.

IV.  RULE CHANGES: Will go over at the pre season meeting.

V.  STATES: Continue with the 3 man system of officiating.

VI.  SCRIMMAGE DEFINITION: Are teams following the definition of a scrimmage? Encourage chairs to read the definition at their pre season league meetings.

VII.  WEB SITE: Over all the committee was very pleased with the workings of the web site for the first year. Next season we will look to make points as well as rebounds mandatory.

·  Teams need to update their games by the next morning. (By noon the next day)

·  Tim and Chris will meeting with Buffalo league to clear up web site issues.

·  Need to publicize the web site more to the teams and parents and players. Chris has stats on hits on the site. A flyer to promote the site will be made up for distribution at the pre season meeting.

Adjournment: 11:25pm Submitted: William Shaw, Assistant Chair / NFL rep.
